Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Scott Mackelprang said the incident began at approximately 9:15 a.m. just north of Cedar City.

“Troopers were working some speed enforcement in the area of milepost 65 this morning,” Mackelprang told St. George News. “An older model full-size passenger car passed the troopers’ location at approximately 106 mph.”

Although the troopers attempted a traffic stop, the driver reportedly failed to yield and continued south on I-15 for more than 30 miles at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

“The pursuit continued on into Washington County to approximately mile marker 27, where spikes were successfully deployed by a Washington County deputy,” Mackelprang said, adding that the vehicle came to a stop just south of the Toquerville exit.

“A felony stop was conducted and the female driver of the vehicle was taken into custody without incident,” Mackelprang said, adding that the driver was the only occupant of the car.

Traffic was impacted briefly while the felony stop was conducted, he said.

“Then, it was opened back up and cleared out pretty quickly.”

In addition to multiple UHP troopers and sheriff’s deputies from both Iron and Washington counties, an EMS crew based in Leeds also responded to the incident, Mackeprang said.

After being taken into custody, the woman was transported to Iron County Jail. However, as of 9 p.m. Friday evening, her name and booking information had not yet been posted on the jail’s website.

This report is based on statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
