ST. GEORGE — Jenna Thorkelson was named Most Valuable Player and was one of seven Snow Canyon Warriors picked to the All-Region 10 softball team released Tuesday.

Snow Canyon compiled an 11-1 record on the way to winning the Region 10 crown. They finished 23-9 overall and made it to the semifinal round of the 4A state softball championship tournament.

Thorkelson, a hard-throwing right-hander, compiled a 14-4 record in the pitcher’s circle with a 1.98 ERA. She finished with 93 strikeouts.

She also batted .392 for the Warriors and recorded 19 RBIs.

Warriors teammate Alyssa Staheli also made it onto the first-team roster. The power-hitting freshman clubbed 10 home runs and collected 34 RBIs.

Kylie Hardy, Anyssa Mantono and Emma Daniel represented the Warriors on the second team roster.

And honorable mention winners Meah Stafford and Avery Thorkelson rounded out the Snow Canyon contingent on the all-Region 10 team.

The Mustangs starting pitching tandem of Mckenna Cahoon and Ashlyn Cowdell were named to the first team.

“Both McKenna and Ashlyn work extremely hard with very little time off,” Crimson Cliffs coach Kourtnie Judd said in a text to St. George News.

“Both with great ERAs shows just how deserving they are,” Judd added. “Both can swing the bat well also. Pitchers that throw well and hit well are always deserving of recognition.”

Senior Emma Shakespear also got the nod to the first team.

“She swings a very powerful bat and we were so glad it got hot and stayed hot most of the season,” Judd said. “That’s hard to do. She puts the extra time in it takes to be a great hitter.”

Ellie Herd represented the Mustangs on the second-team roster and Afton Roberts, Ellie Brinkerhoff and Addilyn Brinkerhoff received honorable mention honors.

“Ellie Brinkerhoff was our only catcher,” Judd said, adding that she caught every game and had a sore shoulder all season. “Did everything she could do to give her team the very best of her strength and ability. Great blocks and tags behind the plate this year. Great teammate!”

“Addilyn Brinkerhoff, wow!” Judd said. “Freshman with a huge future! Swings the bat effortlessly with great consistency. She’s a natural to the game, makes everything simple at the plate with a great attitude.”

Judd also wrote in her text that she will not be returning as Crimson Cliffs head coach next season.
