HURRICANE — An early morning brush fire on the Hurricane Hill charred 12 acres Sunday before firefighters were able to get it under control.
Heber Heyder with the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, said the agency received a call about 1:15 a.m. this morning reporting a brush fire in Hurricane. He said while structures were threatened, no evacuations or injuries occurred.
Both Heyder and Mike Melton, Area Fire Management Officer for Southwest Utah said the fire is currently under investigation with no citations issued.
Heyder added that the fire was human-caused.
Captain Steve Harris with the Hurricane Valley Fire District was on the scene of the fire when he spoke to St. George News Sunday morning. Harris said there were power poles involved in the 12-acre fire.
“There’s just a little bit of heat interior, so with the high winds, we will probably have a truck out here all day putting out a few remaining hotspots,” Harris said.
Hildale Fire Department, Hurricane Fire Department, Washington City Fire Department, Utah Division of Forestry and the Bureau of Land Management responded to the incident.
This report is based on statements from police, emergency personnel or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
