CEDAR CITY — Police say a two-vehicle collision in Cedar City Thursday morning was caused by one of the drivers failing to yield while making a left turn.

The incident, which was reported shortly after 9 a.m., involved a white Chevrolet Equinox SUV and a silver Toyota SUV that collided at the intersection of 200 North and 1400 West.

Cedar City Police Officer Evan Pettit told Cedar City News that the driver of the Chevrolet had just exited Interstate 15 and was attempting to turn left onto westbound 200 North when her vehicle struck the driver’s side of the southbound Toyota, which was heading through the intersection toward the I-15 onramp.

No injuries were reported.

“Everybody’s fine. Nobody got transported,” said Pettit, adding that in addition to the one driver in each vehicle, the Chevrolet also carried a small child as a passenger.

The driver of the Chevrolet was cited for failure to yield, Pettit added.

Traffic in the area was impacted for approximately 30 minutes while the scene was cleared. Drivers were unable to turn left due to the closure of one eastbound lane.

Coincidentally, visible in the background at the crash scene was a Subway restaurant sign reading, “Turn left to eat right.”

The Chevrolet sustained significant front-end damage and was towed from the scene. The Toyota, which had minor to moderate side damage, appeared to be at least drivable. However, it also was towed.

This report is based on information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
