ST. GEORGE — The Region 10 baseball season wrapped up Friday night, with the Dixie Flyers completing a two-game sweep of Cedar to claim the region crown they’d already clinched last week.
Meanwhile, at Crimson Cliffs, the Desert Hills Thunder avenged a 4-1 extra-inning loss to the Mustangs on Tuesday with a 7-0 shutout win Friday night.
Payton Gubler pitched a gem for the Thunder, going the distance while allowing just one hit and striking out 15. Offensively, Cole Decastro and Kyler Terry each had two hits and drove in a combined five runs.
Meanwhile, at Dixie, the Flyers defeated Cedar 4-2 on Friday night, two days after beating the Reds 8-1 in Cedar City on Wednesday afternoon. Dixie finished the season with an 11-1 record in Region 10, with the only loss being an 8-5 setback at home against Snow Canyon on April 19.
Also on Friday, the Snow Canyon Warriors rolled to a 13-3 home win over Hurricane to complete their sweep of the Tigers this week. On Tuesday night, Snow Canyon won 22-5 at Hurricane.
The 4A state tournament bracket and final RPI rankings were released on the Utah High School Activities Association’s website on Saturday morning. As expected, Dixie got the No. 1 seed. Meanwhile, Region 10 schools captured the next three spots in the rankings as well, with Crimson Cliffs at No. 2, Pine View at No. 3, and defending state champion Snow Canyon at No. 4.
