Region 10 softball: Snow Canyon alone in first place as teams face last week of regular season

ST. GEORGE —  Snow Canyon leads Crimson Cliffs by a single game and is ahead of Desert Hills by two games entering the final week of the Region 10 softball schedule. Snow Canyon won a non-region game Wednesday, beating Enterprise 9-0 and improving to 18-7 overall and 9-1 in region competition.

Cedar swept Pine View this past week while the other two Region 10 home-and-home series ended in splits.

Following are recaps of the softball games in the region this past week.

Crimson Cliffs 12, Hurricane 2  | Hurricane 7, Crimson Cliffs 6

In Tuesday’s game in Washington, the Mustangs pounded out 11 hits to win the game in six innings.

McKenna Cahoon was the winning pitcher for Crimson Cliffs while Abbi Stout suffered the loss for Hurricane.

Crimson Cliffs saw three batters collect two RBIs apiece: Ashten Taylor, Ellie Herd and Ashlyn Cowdell.

Stout contributed at the plate for the Tigers by driving in two runs.

Friday’s rematch in Hurricane was a different story.

Tigers sophomore McKinlee Wright hit a two-run home run early in the game then won the contest with a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh frame.

Wright finished with five RBIs for the winners. Meanwhile, the Mustangs were led at the plate by Cowdell, who homered and drove in two runs.

The Hurricane win may end up proving crucial as Crimson Cliffs dropped out of a tie for first place in Region 10 after Wright’s dramatic home run.

Desert Hills 12, Dixie 10 | Dixie 14, Desert Hills 5

The road team won both games of this series.

Desert Hills recovered from an 8-4 deficit after the fourth inning to roar back and beat the Flyers Tuesday. An eight-run sixth inning propelled the Thunder to victory.

Kailey Chamblee was the winning pitcher while Debra Tofi took the loss for Dixie.

Dixie was led at the plate by Jamelle Mullins, who homered twice and accounted for five RBIs. Tofi chipped in with a home run and four RBIs.

Meanwhile the Thunder saw Laci Jones hit a double and a home run on her way to driving in four runs. Maci Sparks drove in three with her homer and Aisey Gargano hit a solo shot for the winners.

In the second game on Thursday Dixie exploded for eight runs in the first three innings, then secured the victory with a six-run seventh frame.

Tofi picked up the pitching win for Dixie while Hallee Heath took the loss.

Laci Jones homered and drove in two for the Thunder and Jenelle Jones doubled to pick up one RBI.

Dixie got at least one RBI from seven different batters in the victory. Tofi led the way with three RBIs.

Chloe Ellison and Elle Anderson each had two RBIs for the Flyers.

The Reds combined for 31 runs and 33 hits in the two-game sweep.

Sadie Parson was the winning pitcher on Tuesday. Lexus Ludlow homered and drove in three runs to pace the Reds at the plate. Kodi Nelson also hit a double and had two RBIs.

Three different batters for Pine View drove in one run in the loss: Chaisey Milne, McKelle Jeppson and Kaytlyne Hunt.

Elli John was the pitching winner for Cedar on Friday in a game that ended after six innings. Cedar hitters combined to smash seven home runs in the game.

Haylee Campbell led the Reds with five RBIs. Avery Vest drove in four and Amryn Tom batted in three more runs in the Cedar win.

Jeppson hit a home run and plated five Panther runs in the setback. Sophia Rodriguez drove in two and Milne and Brinlee Wilstead each picked up an RBI for Pine View.
