Region 10 baseball: Dixie up by two games as teams look to improve playoff positioning in last two weeks

ST. GEORGE — At 7-1, Dixie is the leader of the pack in the hunt for the Region 10 baseball title with two weeks remaining in the regular season. Crimson Cliffs and Desert Hills are two games behind the Flyers with their region records at 5-3.

Pine View is still in the hunt at 6-4 while defending 4A champion Snow Canyon will look to improve its overall record as playoff seeds are on the line in the remaining games.

Following are recaps of the action on the diamond this past week.

Cedar 5, Hurricane 4 | Cedar 11, Hurricane 0

The Reds swept the Tigers, outscoring them by a combined 16-4.

Tuesday, Braxtan Torres picked up the pitching win for Cedar while Mason Shumaker took the loss on the mound for Hurricane.

Kas’n Crandall, Thomas Carter and Colter Bunnell all had solo RBI’s for the winners.

The Tigers saw Jaxon Jones drive in a run and Sam Johanson tripled in the setback.

Friday, Crandall pitched a shutout for the Reds while Hunter Lee took the loss for Hurricane.

Cedar’s offensive attack was paced by Torres and his two RBIs. Crandall also drove in two Tigers and Calvin Slack batted one home as well.

Pine View 13, Desert Hills 6 | Pine View 10, Desert Hills 5

The Panthers got the sweep behind Brandon Roundy, who was the winning pitcher in both games. Karson Irvin and Payton Gubler, respectively, took the pitching losses for Desert Hills.

Tuesday, Pine View was led at the plate by Dylan Becker, who smacked a home run and drove in five total runs. Roundy helped his own cause with two RBIs.

Four Panthers batters (Nash Schroeder, Kyson Milne, Luke Iverson, Ian Becker) each had RBIs in the win.

Meanwhile Desert Hills got two RBIs from Eric Olsen. Kyler Terry, Cooper Cluff and Jake Bean each had an RBI in the loss.

Friday, Milne led the way for Pine View with his three RBIs. Schroeder hit a double and drove in two Panthers in the win.

Desert Hills answered with single RBIs from Gubler, Andrew Wilson, Taylor Mosher and Cole Decastro.

Snow Canyon 8, Dixie 5 | Dixie 14, Snow Canyon 9

Tuesday, Warriors pitcher Kyson Goates picked up the win. Malcolm Bartholomew suffered the setback for Dixie.

Snow Canyon was led at the plate by Ryder Harrison’s three RBIs and Luke Anderson’s two runs driven in.

In defeat, Dixie’s Braxton Yates, Logan Leavitt and Grayson Erickson each recorded a solo RBI for the Flyers.

Cason Bell pitched the Flyers win Friday night while Ethan Anderson was saddled with the loss.

The teams combined for 31 hits and 23 runs in a wild affair that Dixie led at one point 12-3 before Snow Canyon rallied.

Eight different Flyers batters recorded at least one RBI in the win, led by Blake Watson’s home run and three runs driven in. Leavitt and Ridge Erickson had two RBIs apiece for Dixie.

Three different Warriors (Logan Mendenhall, Sam Lindsey, Talan Kelly) each hit a home run in the game. Collectively those three batters drove in seven of Snow Canyon’s runs.
