ST. GEORGE — Offering students and community members in all academic disciplines the opportunity to showcase their work, the Dixie State University Research Office is hosting the 6thAnnual Regional Symposium for Research, Innovation, and Creativity.
Held on Earth Day, the symposium will kick off with a forum on water and sustainable growth on April 21, according to a news release from Dixie State.
The symposium will be on campus on April 22 and open with the DSU Institute of Politics’ Water & Sustainable Growth in Southern Utah forum at 6 p.m. on April 21 in the Gardner Ballroom. All symposium events are free and open to the community.
“With almost every press interview I give about politics or public policy, the word ‘water’ will make its way into the conversation,” Vince Brown, director of DSU’s Institute of Politics, said in the press release. “Few issues impact every one of us in this community in such a profound and daily manner.”
The forum will be led by a panel that includes Zach Renstrom, general manager of Washington County Water Conservancy District, and Ed Andrechak, vice president of Conserve Southwest Utah.
“The goals of the university and the community and the continuation of all our great work here will depend on our solving of our water issues,” Brown said in the news release. “As we are in the middle of a historic drought, what could be more important?”
The following day, April 22, the symposium will present research, innovation and creative projects in various formats including talks, posters, performances and displays. Opening ceremonies will take place noon-1 p.m. at DSU’s O.C. Tanner Fountain Amphitheater. The event will continue with oral presentations 1-3 p.m. in the Snow Science Center, poster presentations 3-5 p.m. in the Gardner Center Ballroom and open-mic reading and performances 3-5 p.m. at the Tanner Fountain Amphitheater.
The symposium aims to foster collaboration between the campus and community while building new partnerships across academic disciplines as scholars at various stages in their careers network and collaborate, according to the news release.
