According to the National Weather Service, winds exceeded 40 mph at the St. George Airport around 7 p.m., while sustained winds hovered between 30 and 35 mph. Red sand was blowing across the runway, taxiway and service roads as well, but most flights arrived and departed on time.

The scheduled 10:27 p.m. incoming arrival from Salt Lake City, however, was delayed due to weather, according to Flight Aware.

Around the greater St. George area, flags were standing straight out as gales from the southwest continued to send dust, tumbleweeds and small branches across roadways. The official NWS Wind Advisory, which is in effect until 4 a.m. Tuesday, read as follows:

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. A few power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult due to strong crosswinds, especially for high-profile vehicles and vehicles with trailers. Expect rough conditions on area lakes … Areas of blowing dust may cause reduced visibility … Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

Millford saw a gust of 59 mph Monday evening, according to the web site usairnet.com, which tracks winds gusts in Utah.
