UPDATED: Body found in car at grocery store parking lot in St. George

ST. GEORGE — Police vehicles and yellow caution tape blocked off several spaces in the Smith’s Marketplace parking lot on Mall Drive after police were alerted to a dead body found in a parked car Sunday morning.

The body was reported by bystanders shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday morning, St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell said.

Police have confirmed the identity of the male occupant but are not releasing that information at this time, St. George Police Sgt. Colby DeCamp said at the scene.

The body was removed from the scene in a white SUV shorty after noon. Police held up a white sheet to cover the body while it was being moved.

Family of the deceased reached out to St. George News to say the cause of death has yet to be determined pending an autopsy.

The on-duty manager at Smith’s declined to comment on the matter.
