CEDAR CITY — One driver was injured in a two-vehicle collision Friday morning at the intersection of state Route 56 and Cross Hollow Road in Cedar City.

The incident, which occurred shortly before 7:45 a.m., involved a white Jeep Liberty SUV and a black Mercedes sedan, each with a female driver as its only occupant.

Cedar City Police Officer Patrick McCoy said the driver of the westbound Mercedes was attempting to make a left turn onto Cross Hollow when her car was struck nearly head-on by the eastbound Jeep.

“There’s some discrepancy on who had the right of way,” McCoy told Cedar City News at the scene. “We understand that one of them ran a yellow light.”

The woman in the Mercedes reportedly was transported to the hospital via Gold Cross Ambulance for treatment of injuries to her leg and hip.

The other driver wasn’t injured and remained on site as responders worked to clear the scene.

Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage and needed to be towed.

Traffic in the area was impacted for nearly one hour, including partial lane closures, until the wrecked vehicles were removed from the intersection by tow trucks.

McCoy said at the scene that no citations had yet been issued but added that the incident is still under investigation.

This report is based on information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
