Electrical fire in St. George damages home, ruins child’s dollhouse

ST. GEORGE — A house fire caused around $60,000 worth of damage to a home at 1450 South 2894 East 1450 in St. George Thursday morning at 9:37 a.m.

According to St. George Fire Chief Robert Stoker, a small brush fire in the area was not connected with the house fire.

“We had a fire in one of the bedrooms,” Stoker said. “It appears that we’ve had a power surge or some kind of a power issue. That’s what we’re looking into.”

The fire appears to have started in one of the upstairs bedrooms in the two-story home. There were some construction workers in the area.

“They were able to break the window of the bedroom that was on fire and put some water in with one of their water tankers,” Stoker said. “And so it was able to slow that fire down for us,”

A female at the scene was treated for smoke inhalation. All occupants were out of the home when the Fire Department arrived.

There were no injuries, Stoker said. The fire appears to have started in a young girl’s room who was not home at the time of the fire. Her dollhouse was a total loss.
