WASHINGTON CITY —Many Washington County residents are taking advantage of Southern Utah’s recreational paradise by purchasing boats, RVs, ATVs, UTVs, and more, but where are these items being stored?

Finding a storage area for these purchases could be seen as a daunting task for some owners and may even deter prospective buyers from taking the plunge into these big-ticket items.

A unique storage facility that will open in Washington City in the fall is being designed specifically for that, offering climate-controlled storage for motorcoaches, RVs, classic cars, hobbyists, and everything in between.

“We have Falcon Storage Condos in Washington County, Utah that just broke ground today. This is a 150,000 square foot multi-building project that will bring a new product type to this market where owners will be able to own their storage versus rent their storage”, Shane Jimenez, President of Falcon One, said at the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday.

The mayor of Washington City, Kress Staheli, was present at the ceremony and shared his excitement about the addition.

“This is a really exciting project. The use will be anywhere from you know, a hobby garage, to a man cave, to a place to store and work on your recreational vehicles and toys. So we’re happy to be here with NAI Excel, with Grass Creek builders, and with the owners, investors and just welcome them to Washington City. We think this is going to be a great project.”

During the ceremony, Staheli shared his appreciation towards the owners for seeing a market need and designing a product to fit that need. He believes this project will continue to elevate Washington City and its commitment to the right type of commercial growth.

Large-compacity storage and amenities

Jimenez told St. George News the smallest unit for sale will be 20 feet wide by 40 feet long and increase from there. The drive aisles will also be two-and-a-half times the drive aisle length of a typical mini-storage facility, increasing maneuverability on-site for larger equipment like boats, motor coaches, and RVs.

Each unit will also have access to an on-site clubhouse featuring a media center, gathering room, restrooms, showers, a kitchenette and more.

“These are separately-deeded individual interests in real estate. Just like you would buy your home, you can own a storage condo. The units are all air-conditioned and they’re fully finished on the inside with sheetrock. They’re taped, textured and primer-painted,” Jimenez said.

When asked about the estimated number of units and projected date of completion, Jimenez stated that this project will span 150,000 square feet with roughly 140 units. He estimates that units will be available for purchase by the end of the year. He also added that although these units are climate-controlled with access to clubhouse amenities, there are protective covenants in place that will restrict any overnight stays, as the storage units will be built and maintained solely for private storage of personal goods.
