ST. GEORGE — Awards keep coming for Dixie State University standout basketball player Hunter Schofield.

Schofield was named to the 2021-22 CoSIDA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Academic All-America first team, according to a press release from Dixie State.

The award was announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Schofield is not only the first Trailblazer in the program’s NCAA era to earn first-team Academic All-America honors, but he is also the first Dixie State player to be a repeat selection after being named to the second team last season.

Schofield joins Josh Fuller (2016-17 second team) and Brandon Simister (2017-18 second team) as the only three Trailblazers to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors.

Schofield, a 6-foot-8-inch center from Spanish Fork, carries a 3.94 GPA in exercise science. He led Dixie State in scoring with 15 points per game and in rebounding with 6.3 rebounds per game.

He finished sixth in the Western Athletic Conference in defensive rebounding average and was twelfth in the conference in field goal percentage (.472).

Schofield was named to the all-WAC first team after leading the Trailblazers to a 13-18 overall record, including a 6-12 mark in WAC play. Dixie State finished with a 10-6 home record at Burns Arena and finished in twelfth place overall in the WAC.

The senior posted five double-doubles this past season and scored in double figures in 26 of 31 games, including 14 of his last 15 starts.

His high-water mark came against rival Southern Utah on Nov. 12 when he scored 29 points.

Schofield finished his career with 1,223 points and 499 rebounds, one rebound shy of becoming just the third Trailblazer in program history to join the 1,200/500 club.

Schofield leaves Dixie State in second-place all-time in field goals made (472) and ranks in the all-time top-10 in 11 different statistical categories.

Joining Schofield on the 2021-22 CoSIDA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Academic All-America first team were Jimmy Boeheim (Syracuse), Tanner Groves (Oklahoma), JT Shumate (Toledo) and Ben Vander Plas (Ohio University).
