Government, gun group offering $10,000 reward to find Dixie Gun & Fish burglar

ST. GEORGE — A reward is being offered for information that can lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the burglary of the Dixie Gun & Fish store in St. George last Friday.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the National Shooting Sports Foundation are each offering $5,000 for a total of $10,000 toward the apprehension of a suspect or suspects involved in the burglary of the gun and hunting gear store that took place early Friday at 4:48 a.m.

The reward was announced in a bulletin by the ATF, which also featured greyed, fuzzy pictures and video of a suspect fully covered from head to toe in a hooded jacket and gloves. No facial features could be seen, but there are distinctive shoes and gear that may help identify the suspect.

The shooting foundation, which is a trade association for the firearms industry, has a program where they match rewards offered by the ATF in cases involving the theft of firearms from federally licensed firearms retailers.

St. George Police is also working with the two groups. While the video appears to show one suspect breaking into display cases, the bulletin leaves it open that there may be other suspects involved.

It’s still not clear exactly how many firearms were stolen, as the ATF is continuing to conduct an inventory and investigation. The store specializes in high-end weapons including M-18s and other automatic weapons.

It also isn’t the first time the store has been burglarized, with another incident taking place in December 2013. That suspect was eventually captured and convicted and has since died.

The store, normally open on weekdays, reopened Monday after being closed all of Friday.

Those with information about the crime can contact the ATF at 1-888-283-8477 or the St. George Police Department at (435) 627-4300. Information can also be sent to [email protected] or through ATF’s website.
