What is that white stuff? Winter storm watch means possible snow in St. George

ST. GEORGE — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a winter storm watch for portions of Southern Utah.

The advisory is forecasting up to a 70-80 per cent chance of snow totaling 5-15 inches for the central and southern mountains, including the cities of St. George, Washington City, Hurricane, Ivins, Green River, Goblin Valley, Springdale, Panguitch, Circleville, Koosharem, Bryce Canyon City, Kanab, Escalante, Loa, Torrey, Hanksville, Big Water, and Bullfrog, with locally higher totals near Brian Head and in the Tushar. The advisory also forecasts winds gusting as high as 50 mph.

Total snow accumulations of 1-3 inches possible with locally higher amounts in lower Washington County and 6-12 inches most other valleys in the watch area which include portions of central, southern and southwest Utah.

Cedar City and surrounding areas will be under a winter weather advisory beginning Monday night through Wednesday afternoon with up to an 80% chance of snow forecast.

A winter storm advisory for Washington County is in effect Monday at 5 a.m. through 11 p.m. The winter storm watch is in effect from Tuesday at 2 p.m. through Wednesday at 5 p.m..

Precautionary and preparedness actions

Winter driving conditions will be possible across the entire watch area. Snow may accumulate in areas not typically impacted by heavy snow including the lower valleys of southern and eastern Utah.
