ST. GEORGE — A two-vehicle crash on 300 South left one driver injured and a second driver cited after the vehicles collided Friday morning in the intersection, which garnered the attention of several onlookers.
Shortly before 9 a.m., officers and emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash reported at the intersection of East 300 South and South 100 East involving a white Chrysler 300 and a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Officers arrived to find both vehicles partially blocking the intersection.
St. George Police Officer Berkeley Christian told St. George News the driver of the Chrysler suffered an injury to her shoulder and was transported to St. George Regional Hospital for evaluation and treatment. The driver of the pickup reported no injuries at the scene, he said.
Christian said the driver of the pickup told police that just before the crash, they were heading north on South 100 East. After stopping at the stop sign at 300 South, the driver said they proceeded through the intersection but did not see the Chrysler that was heading west on 300 South – the vehicle that had the right of way.
Both vehicles collided and spun around in the intersection. The pickup came to rest in the westbound lane of 300 South, while the Chrysler was left in the middle of the roadway with severe damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle. The pickup truck was also heavily damaged with the front-end destroyed. Both vehicles were rendered inoperable and were subsequently towed from the roadway.
Police say the driver of the pickup truck was later cited for failing to yield after a stop sign. The impact on traffic was minimal as responders cleared debris and tended to the scene.
The St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.
