The physicians at Desert Pain are dedicated to helping patients find relief from their pain by delivering more than might be expected: more locations, more communication and more care.

“I don’t think there’s any technology out there that we don’t offer here,” interventional pain management specialist Dr. Steven Larsen said. “In terms of both procedures and medications, there’s never been as many options.”

Larsen said that patients starting a new chapter in their pain management journey have many questions. As such, he strives to answer some of the most common.

How soon can I get an appointment?

Desert Pain is open Monday through Friday and can usually book patients for same-day or next-day consultations. Depending on the complexity of their pain issues, the visit can be adjusted to give them more time with a physician.

At Desert Pain, patients spend less time in the lobby and more time receiving face-to-face care. The typical wait time at any location is just five minutes.

“We don’t push people through our system like cattle,” Larsen said. “Patients tell us all the time that they know they’re not just a number here.”

Desert Pain accepts all major insurance providers and employs an extensive team of billing specialists to ensure procedures are billed properly. Larsen said the clinic takes pride in excellent communication with both patients and insurance companies to ensure there are no surprises along the way.

And if the insurer won’t cover a procedure that physicians deem important medically necessary, Desert Pain also has an appeals department dedicated to fighting for their patients.

What if I don’t have insurance?

When seeking pain relief, the last thing patients should have to worry about is being able to afford treatment. That’s why Desert Pain offers one of the most affordable cash-pay models of any pain clinic, Larsen said. Pricing is based on Medicare reimbursement, resulting in lower payments for uninsured and underinsured patients.

“We don’t discriminate, and we don’t charge more or less based on somebody’s situation,” he said. “We provide equitable and affordable care.”

What areas of Southern Utah do you service?

Desert Pain operates a state-of-the-art facility in the Riverfront Medical Center in St. George that allows them to offer unmatched quality of care to their patients. And with satellite clinics in Hurricane, Cedar City, Kanab, Beaver and Panguitch, they’re prepared to serve the needs of the area’s growing population.

Southern Nevada patients have enjoyed the convenience of Desert Pain’s Mesquite location for the past decade. Last fall, Desert Pain opened another clinic in Overton to serve residents of rural communities in and around the Moapa Valley.

Now Desert Pain is focused on expanding into central Utah. Larsen said they recently hired a physician assistant to increase availability at their Beaver and Panguitch locations. Patients in the Richfield, Delta and Fillmore areas will also have pain management services much closer to home in the coming months.

Desert Pain is a team of highly skilled physicians seeking to improve patient quality of life through innovative pain management solutions. Patients are seen, heard, understood and supported throughout their journey with chronic or acute pain.

“We treat pain from head to toe,” Larsen said. “All of our providers are really committed to trying to solve our patients’ problems, and that drives innovation.”
