ST. GEORGE — Just in time for the holidays, Canyon Media and St. George News have released another fun, stress-relieving coloring book for kids and adults alike.

Featuring holiday and winter-themed illustrations, the fourth volume of “Color the Desert” offers engaging coloring challenges that parents and kids can enjoy together. Polar bears, penguins and nutcracker princes all come to life within its 32 pages, not to mention jolly old Santa and his reindeer.

In a day and age when it’s easy for kids to spend hours in front of a screen watching TV, playing video games or scrolling social media, Canyon Media general manager Ben Lindquist hopes “Color the Desert” will foster creativity and bring families together.

“Some of my fondest memories as a parent and a child were spent coloring,” he said. “I still love it when my youngest son sets up shop on our dining room table and colors for hours, proudly sharing each completed page.”

With the support of Canyon Media’s advertising partners, the coloring book is offered as a free gift to the community while supplies last. Pick up your copy at the Red Cliffs Mall, located at 1770 E. Red Cliffs Drive in St. George, during visits with Santa or at any of the following locations:

Canyon Media art director Krystal Tibbs said the coloring book has become her favorite product to work on, and many of her coworkers feel the same way.

“It’s so fun for us to flex our creative muscles, practice our drawing skills and create this amazing free book for our community,” she added. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it to see so many kids and families spending time together coloring.”

Research shows that the activity of coloring holds therapeutic benefits for both children and adults, leading to a rise in the popularity of coloring books for all ages in recent years. Some people have integrated coloring into their mindfulness and meditation routines. You don’t have to be an artist by any means – just grab some pencils or crayons and let your creativity flow.

“We love working on this project as a team because we love what it means for the community, local businesses and local families,” said James Kreitzer, the creative director and director of digital media for Canyon Media. “Coloring truly is a great way to be together and relax as a family.”

“Color the Desert” is just one of many ways Canyon Media and St. George News engage and connect with listeners and readers across Southern Utah. The company gives back all year long through KONY Coins for Kids, Best Teacher on the Planet and other community-based promotions.
