2 injured in active shooter incident on I-15 in Juab County; suspect traveling south, still at large

ST. GEORGE — The Utah Highway Patrol has alerted travelers on Interstate 15 that the occupant or occupants of a southbound vehicle shot at several vehicles, injuring two people. As of publication of this article, the suspect is still at large.

According to a UHP Facebook post at 7:47 a.m., several vehicles were shot as they were traveling on I-15 between Nephi and Scipio in Juab County. The suspect vehicle was described by witnesses as a light colored SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee.

“We are investigating four vehicles that were shot,” the post stated, “three that were southbound in the area and one that was northbound.”

UHP reported that two individuals from those vehicles were struck by the shots fired but that their injuries are not considered life threatening.

The last report was that the suspect was southbound on I-15, but the last reported vehicle that was shot was northbound, the post stated.

UHP advised the public to be alert and report any suspicious activity. If anyone has information about or witnessed the shooting incident, they are urged to contact the Utah Highway Patrol dispatch at 801-887-3800.
