ST. GEORGE — A motorcycle rider was left critically injured Saturday evening following a two-vehicle crash on South River Road – a collision that left an intersection closed and launched an investigation by the accident reconstruction team.
Shortly after 7 p.m., officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection of South River Road and 2450 South on a two-vehicle crash involving a 2021 Hyundai Elantra and a 2005 Kawasaki.
St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell told St. George News that officers arrived at the scene to find the 24-year-old motorcycle rider seriously injured. He was transported to St. George Regional Hospital in critical condition, she said.
At the time of the crash, the driver of the Kawasaki was heading north on River Road, while the Hyundai was on the southbound side in the left-hand turn lane. Mitchell said when the driver of the Hyundai pulled out to head east on 2450 South, it struck the oncoming motorcycle as it continued through the intersection. The rider was thrown from the bike upon impact.
The rider was not wearing a helmet when the collision took place, she added.
Mitchell said the accident reconstruction team also responded to conduct an investigation, as is standard in crashes that result in serious or critical injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
As such, no further details relating to the crash or the condition of the rider have been released at this point.
Traffic was impacted when the intersection was closed for the reconstruction team. The St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded and tended to the scene.
