Public input sought on nominees from Cedar City, St. George being considered for Parowan Justice Court

PAROWAN — Three nominees are under consideration to replace Parowan Justice Court Judge Brent Dunlap, who has resigned after serving in the position since 2011.

According to a news release issued Monday by the Utah State Courts, the Iron County Judicial Nominating Commission has selected the following three nominees for the vacancy:

  • Matthew Carling, J.D., attorney at law and resident of Cedar City.
  • Lucia Maloy, J.D., attorney at law and resident of Cedar City.
  • Chase Van Oostendorp, J.D., attorney at law and resident of St. George.

A public comment period will be held through Nov. 18, after which a final candidate will be selected by current Parowan City Mayor Preston Griffiths within 30 days. The selection must then be certified by the Utah Judicial Council.
