The Kick4Cash program was created by Stephen Wade Auto Center to give back to local high schools through a halftime show during one of their home football games.

The program began six years ago as a promotion to support underfunded clubs, teams and organizations within Washington County high schools. Many of these groups receive minimal sponsorship dollars. Past recipients have included debate teams, lacrosse teams, chess clubs, art clubs, student councils and choirs.

Kick4Cash events are planned with the Washington County high schools when the fall football schedules are released. As part of the process, a Kick4Cash video is posted on the school’s Instagram account, and students have the opportunity to suggest the name of their organization in the comments section. The top three organizations that garner the highest number of comments are chosen to “kick for cash,” with each club selecting a kicker to attempt field goals during the halftime event. The kickers each get three kicks to win up to $500 total for their club, team or organization.

“It has been so great building the relationships with the school administration as well as the students to give back to the teams that don’t always get large donations from sponsors,” said Jamie Bahlmann, public relations director for Stephen Wade Auto Center. “The students really look forward to the opportunity to kick for cash for their organization.”

This year, Kick4Cash awarded $6,850 to 18 clubs and teams. A total of 78 organizations participated by commenting on their school’s Instagram posts.

Canyon Media radio personality Mark Musgrave, aka “The Voice You Know,” has served as the emcee of Kick4Cash since its inception.

“It’s exciting that we’re giving away potentially $1,500 every time we do this to our local schools,” he said. “The money goes directly to the clubs and organizations that students are kicking for.”

Stephen Wade Auto Center group supports youth sports, art and science programs, school athletic teams, local school clubs and other organizations through the Kick4Cash and Shoot4Cash programs. The group also sponsors sporting events, concerts, festivals, medical programs and nonprofit initiatives throughout Southern Utah, including the Washington County School District Foundation classroom grants.

“It’s so important for us as sponsors to give back to our kids and our schools,” Bahlmann said. “They are really our future, so we want to support them in their endeavors and all they choose to participate in.”
