Crash at Sunset and Dixie Drive results in 3 people transported to hospital

ST. GEORGE — Three people were sent to the hospital Thursday morning after a two-vehicle crash in front of Walgreens at the intersection of Sunset and Dixie Drive that police say was the result of failure to yield.

Shortly before 9 a.m., officers and emergency personnel responded to the scene and found a white Chevrolet Traverse partially blocking the southbound lane of Dixie Drive, while a white Chrysler Pacifica was launched onto the sidewalk and came to rest on the grass in front of Walgreens.

St. George Police Officer Tiffany Atkin told St. George News that at the time of the crash, the Chrysler was heading east on Sunset while the Chevrolet was heading south on Dixie Downs Road.

At the intersection, the Chrysler was turning left onto Dixie Drive to head south and was struck by the Chevrolet as it continued through the intersection on a red light.

The impact spun both vehicles around and pushed the Chrysler up onto the sidewalk near Walgreens.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged and towed from the roadway.

Atkin said the driver of the Chrysler and both occupants in the Chevrolet were injured and subsequently transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center by ambulance, and she added that the driver of the Chevrolet was later cited for failing to obey a traffic-control device.

The St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded and tended to the scene.

This report is based on statements from police, emergency personnel or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
