ST. GEORGE — An alleged stabbing in the Dixie Downs area of St. George led to a localized manhunt and temporary school lockout Friday morning.

The incident was reported shortly after 11 a.m. at an apartment complex located on the northeastern corner of 950 West and 1725 North.

Officer Tiffany Atkin with the St. George Police Department told St. George News that a female victim suffered a single stab wound. The suspect, whose description has not yet been released, fled the scene and remains at large.

Police began conducting a search of the vicinity on foot and by vehicle. Atkin confirmed that Paradise Canyon Elementary School, located less than a mile away, was placed on lockout briefly while officers combed the surrounding neighborhoods.

The St. George Police Department does not believe the suspect poses any threat to the public at this time, as the incident does not appear to be a random attack, Atkin said.

“We know the suspect and the victim knew each other. … They had had confrontations before,” she said.

This is a developing story.
