ST. GEORGE — A semitrailer fire on southbound Interstate 15 near Leeds closed one lane of travel as of late Thursday afternoon, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
Updated 9:30 p.m., Aug. 20.: A new estimate on clearance time from UDOT and a description of the scene as of 9 p.m. was added.
Located at mile 29, 6 miles north of Leeds, the semitrailer fire was reported around 5 p.m., UDOT reported over Twitter.
Reader-submitted video of the incident shows the fire had spread from the semitrailer to the brush along the roadside.
However, the fire appears to have been extinguished by 9 p.m., according to a St. George News reporter passing through the area. The remains of the semitrailer was also still on the road blocking one of the travel lanes. Several fire trucks and personnel were also still on scene.
Traffic was also reported to be backed up due to the incident.
UDOT is reporting the possibility of more than 15-minute delays for passing motorists with a potential clearance time of 11:10 p.m.
