ST. GEORGE — A utility trailer stolen from a construction site in Washington City in the early morning hours of Dec. 28 was recovered by police officers in Mesquite, Nevada.
Officers were dispatched to a gated community in Mesquite after a resident reported the trailer that appeared to have been abandoned, Washington City Police Lt. Jason Williams told St. George News Sunday.
Responding officers ran “either the license plate or the trailer’s VIN number, which came back as reported stolen which is when they called us to let us know they recovered the trailer, ” Williams said, adding they were also advised the trailer contained equipment that may have been taken during an unrelated theft.
“We are working with Mesquite PD to try and identify any suspects they might have, and then we need find out who owns whatever equipment was inside of the trailer when they recovered it.”
What officers discovered “was a motorcycle inside of the trailer that was otherwise completely empty,” Mesquite Police Sgt. Quinn Averett said Monday.
Averett went on to say that authorities in Utah were investigating the incident.
“Our only involvement in the case was the recovery of the trailer and the motorcycle, which we have stored in a secure facility until both are returned to Utah,” Averett said.
The trailer’s owner was notified of the recovery and traveled to Mesquite to pick up the trailer, and found it “completely empty when we got there,”Andrea Barrera said.
Barrera also said the condition of the trailer was “not bad – it works,” and cited a few small things that were damaged, including the lock that was likely broken when the suspect(s) pried the doors open.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, Williams said, and anyone with information that might help police identify and locate the individual(s) responsible for the two unrelated thefts is urged to call the Washington City Police Department at 435-986-1515.

Found abandoned in a Gated Community in Mesquite….makes you feel even more safe huh folks?
My inlaws lived in a gated community in Mesquite. During the day, the gates were left open to make it easier for residents to come and go… they only wanted the security at night when they weren’t spending their days peering outside at who came and went.
