Southern Utah holiday weekend weather: Expect colder temperatures, winter road conditions for most southwest areas

ST. GEORGE — According to the National Weather Service, this weekend’s weather for the majority of southwestern Utah will include lower temperatures and light snow for the first part. Officials are urging people to use caution while traveling for the holiday due to winter road conditions.

Below are your St. George, Cedar City, Zion National Park and Brian Head area weekend weather forecasts, including current warnings and advisories.

St. George

Sunday

Mostly sunny with a high of 48 and low of 27, with calm winds. There’s a 20 percent chance of snow showers after 11 p.m.

New Year’s Eve

Mostly sunny with a high of 39 and low of 19, with south winds of 5-9 mph. There’s a 20 percent chance of snow showers before 11 a.m.

New Year’s Day

Sunny with a high of 38 and low of 17, with west winds of 8-11 mph.

Cedar City

Sunday

Sunny with a high of 40 and low of 16, with north-northwest winds of 5 mph. There’s a 70 percent of snow showers in the evening, with new snow accumulation of 1-2 inches possible.

New Year’s Eve

Partly sunny with a high of 22 and low of 0, with north winds of 7-14 mph. There’s a 30 percent of snow showers, mainly before 11 a.m.. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

New Year’s Day

Mostly sunny with a high of 20 and low of 0, with north winds of 8-10 mph.

Zion National Park/Springdale

Sunday

Sunny with a high of 42 and low of 18, with west-northwest winds of 3-8 mph. There’s a 40 percent chance of snow showers before 11 p.m. New snow accumulation of less than an inch is possible.

New Year’s Eve

Mostly sunny with a high of 31 and low of 8, with north winds of 11-15 mph. There’s a 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly before 11 a.m. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

New Year’s Day

Sunny with a high of 29 and low of 8, with north winds of 14-17 mph.

Brian Head

According to the Brian Head Resort website, the area has received 0 inches of snow over the last 24 hours, maintaining a 41-inch base depth.

Sunday 

Mostly sunny with a high of 24 and low of 0, with northwest winds of 11-17 mph. There’s a chance of snow showers in the evening, with a 80 percent chance of precipitation. New snow accumulation of 3-5 inches is possible. Wind chill values as low as -18 are possible.

New Year’s Eve – high winds

Mostly cloudy with a high of 4 and low of -10, with north winds of 22-25 mph and wind gusts up to 39 mph. There’s a 60 percent chance of snow, and new snow accumulation of 2-4 inches is possible.

New Year’s Day

Mostly sunny with a high of 8 and low of -4, with north-northeast winds of 21 mph.
