Photo gallery: Kids enjoy hands-on STEAM activities at annual festival

CEDAR CITY — More than 1,500 students in grades K-8 attended the fourth annual STEAMfest hosted by Southern Utah University.

The event, which was held Monday and Tuesday in the ballroom of the Sharwan Student Center on SUU’s campus, was designed to provide experiential learning experiences and interdisciplinary projects to help make STEAM education exciting for students of all ages.

Students in grades K-5 attended Monday, while those in grades sixth-eighth attended Tuesday. Additionally, a family night session was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, attracting a sizable crowd of parents and children.

Participating educational partners included the SUU Planetarium, Southern Utah Museum of Art, Women in Science and Engineering, Sub Zero, SUU Chemistry and Physics Club, Southwest Tech, SUU STEM Center, SUU Prep, DSU STEM, St. George Children’s Museum, NASA at SUU, Southern Utah Rock Club, SUU Animal Ambassadors, Joey Favino Art, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Cedar Mountain Science Camp, SUU Garth and Jerri Frehner Museum of Natural History, SUU Dance, Orchestra of Southern Utah, artsFusion, Plan B Theater and Discovery Gateway.
