ST. GEORGE — The Snow Canyon High School girls soccer team finished the regular season undefeated Friday, thanks to a 4-1 win at Pine View.

The Lady Warriors scored twice in each half, with four different players scoring one goal apiece: Adi Melendez, Ashley Brindley, Heidi Smith and Tylei Jensen.

Brindley finished the regular season with 19 goals scored, while Smith added 18. The Lady Warriors outscored their Region 9 opponents by a collective total of 50-15 over the 12 region contests.

Snow Canyon, which finished the season as the Region 9 champions with a 10-0-2 region record, will begin the 4A playoffs at home Wednesday afternoon with an opening-round match against Ridgeline, starting at 4 p.m.

Finishing in a tie for second place in the region standings were Dixie and Desert Hills, who both finished with 8-3-1 region records.

Dixie had a bye on the regular season’s last day Friday, while Desert Hills edged past Cedar 1-0, eliminating the Lady Reds from playoff contention. If Cedar had managed to win that game, they’d have been tied with Pine View for the fourth and final playoff spot. Lulu Harris scored the game’s only goal in the second half to give Desert Hills the victory.

Even though Dixie and Desert Hills finished with identical region records, Dixie will host its first-round game as Region 9’s No. 2 seed, since the Flyers had tied Snow Canyon once, while Desert Hills lost twice to Snow Canyon. Dixie’s opening round opponent on Wednesday will be the SkyView Bobcats at 4 p.m. on Dixie’s home field.

The No. 3 seeded Desert Hills Lady Thunder, meanwhile, will travel to play Mountain Crest at Hyrum on Wednesday, also at 4 p.m. The Mustangs are Region 12’s second seed.

Even though Pine View lost its season finale to Snow Canyon, the Panthers still made it into the playoffs as the No. 4 seed, finishing with a 5-7-0 region record. They’ll travel to play top-seeded Logan on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

The winners of Wednesday’s games will advance to the 4A quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon, with games being staged at 1 p.m. at the home fields of the higher-seeded schools.
