WASHINGTON CITY — A T-bone crash in Washington City sent an SUV crashing into a retaining wall and a teenager to the hospital Saturday evening.
Officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Washington Fields Road and 3090 South shortly after 5:30 p.m. involving a white Toyota Avalon carrying six juveniles and a white Ford Expedition with two adult occupants.
Upon arrival, officers found one teenage boy in the Toyota who appeared to have suffered minor injuries to his neck and back. The boy was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center as a precaution for evaluation of his injuries, Washington City Police Sgt. Kory Klotz said, adding that no other injuries were reported.
At the time of the crash, the Toyota was heading north on Washington Fields Road while the Ford was heading west on 3090 South.
The Toyota continued north through the intersection and was struck by the Ford as it crossed over Washington Fields Road without stopping, Klotz said. The impact spun both vehicles, and the Ford went crashing through the retaining wall of a residence, taking out a road sign along the way.
“There was significant damage to that wall from the Expedition going through it,” Klotz said.
Officers directed traffic away from the scene as responders tended to the crash. Parents of the juveniles involved in the crash arrived to speak to officers and pick up their children.
All occupants were properly seat-belted at the time of the crash, Klotz noted, explaining that the injuries could have otherwise been significantly worse. He said the Avalon was equipped to properly secure six occupants.
Both vehicles were severely damaged and subsequently towed away. The woman driving the Ford was later cited for failing to stop before entering a roadway.
