ST. GEORGE — One driver received a citation and another was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Riverside Drive and River Road.
St. George Police officer Tiffany Atkin said the incident, which occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m., involved a red Nissan pickup truck and a black Volkswagen Jetta passenger car.
Aktin said the man driving the Nissan was eastbound on Riverside Drive when he attempted to turn left onto northbound River Road, but turned in front of the Jetta, which was westbound on Riverside Drive.
“The light was green for both,” she added.
The woman driving the Jetta was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center for treatment of an arm laceration and other injuries that did not appear to be serious, Atkin said. The driver of the Nissan reportedly suffered a few minor cuts but was not transported for his injuries.
He was cited for failure to yield.
Both cars received significant damage to their front ends and had to be towed from the scene. Traffic at the busy intersection was slowed for at least 30 minutes as workers cleared the wrecked vehicles from the area.
In addition to St. George Police Department, personnel from St. George Fire Department also responded to the scene.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
