ST. GEORGE — A child was injured after a driver drove through a red light, causing a crash on Sunset Boulevard Tuesday.

A Honda CR-V traveling west ran a red light at the intersection of Westridge Drive at about 1:35 p.m., striking a northbound Honda Accord, said St. George Police officer Andy Mickelson. The collision caused both cars to spin around; the Accord lost a wheel and its rear passenger-side window was smashed.

“The CR-V actually went off the road, through some brush and into a parking lot, narrowly missing a traffic light and a sign,” Mickelson said.

The CR-V lost its front bumper in the crash. Both cars were so severely damaged they needed to be towed from the scene.

A small child in the Accord received minor injuries and was bleeding, Mickelson said. The child was transported to the hospital in a Gold Cross Ambulance. No one was injured in the CR-V.

The driver of the CR-V was cited for failing to obey a traffic signal.

This report is based on statements from police and may not contain the full scope of findings.

The way St George drivers behave I think it’s time to put in lights like they have at the drag strips except the countdown is to stop nor punch the accelerator. Ever been on 700 South between 500 West when DHS lets out? It’s shear hell. These teeny boppers jump into traffic like they had executive privilege to drive like maniacs. Driver training? Misuse of the term training.

YUP about 10 years ago a texting girl rear ended my daughter while waiting for the light there. Just drove up behind her and smacked our truck good.
