Utah Highway Patrol responded to the single-vehicle rollover involving a gray Acura passenger car at the southbound Exit 8 I-15 off-ramp at approximately 6:30 p.m.

“We have witnesses that say this vehicle was traveling in excess of the speed limit,” UHP trooper Austin Ipson said. “At the time, it was raining, and the vehicle ran off the road, overturned and came to rest against a tree.”

The driver, who was the only person in the car, was able to exit the car and was walking around at the scene of the crash. He told St. George News that when he hit his brakes, the car started sliding then went off the road.

The spot where the car went off the road was visibly disturbed. Dirt was kicked up as the car went down a rocky embankment before it came to rest on its side up facing the opposite direction against the tree.

Medical personnel from St. George Fire Department arrived to evaluate the driver, but he did not complain of any injuries.

“Medical has cleared him to go,” Ipson said.

The Acura was in inoperable condition and had to be towed from the scene.

Firefighters remained on scene to direct traffic around the area of the crash as police investigated the incident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
