‘Don’t separate families,’ protesters plead during St. George march

ST. GEORGE — “We do care; you should too,” “love over fear” and “St. George was built by immigrants” were some of the phrases written on signs of marchers as they protested family separation Saturday.

Around 200 people showed up for the “Families Belong Together” march Saturday morning in St. George, which is just one of hundreds of cities participating in the nationwide march. According to a report from The Associated Press, groups that pulled off massive women’s marches the past two-years and other left-leaning rallies are now throwing their weight behind migrant families.

Chuck Goode, Washington County chair for the Utah Democratic Party, helped organize the St. George event. He told St. George News separating families is morally wrong.

“Mental health association professionals said this is going to be a trauma that lasts the rest of their lives,” he said.

Goode said he organized the march in order to be in solidarity with the other cities marching and acknowledged the main goal of the march is to bring the families separated at the U.S.-Mexico border back together.

Saturday’s rallies are getting funding and support from the American Civil Liberties Union, MoveOn.org, the National Domestic Workers Alliance and The Leadership Conference. But local organizers are shouldering on-the-ground planning, many of them women relying on informal networks established during worldwide women’s marches on Trump’s inauguration and its anniversary, according to The Associated Press.

Siobhan Kraus drove from her home town Mesquite, Nevada, to join Saturday’s march. She told St. George News she’s Jewish, so she understands the heartbreak behind families being separated.

“Too many families have been separated while searching for freedom, and that’s wrong.”

Kraus carried a sign with “Hola, let my people go” written on it.

Tyler Houlton, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, welcomed interest in the immigration system and said only Congress has the power to change the law, according to The Associated Press report.

“We appreciate that these individuals have expressed an interest in and concern with the critical issue of securing our nation’s borders and enforcing our immigration laws,” Houlton told The Associated Press. “As we have indicated before, the department is disappointed and frustrated by our nation’s disastrous immigration laws and supports action.”

For St. George resident Robert Ford, the issue of family separation is personal because although he’s an American citizen, he grew up in Honduras. His parents were missionaries there over 50 years ago. Ford said he is familiar with the situations young people and women are trying to flee from.

“My parents spent their lives trying to deal with gang problems and to create alternatives for people having to flee,” Ford said.

According to Statistical Atlas, over 12 percent of the population in St. George is Hispanic.

“Their families reach across the border, and it affects them emotionally because they feel like they’re being rejected,” Goode said. “We’re trying to say we’re on your side, and we will help you.”

There were no counter protests during the march, but St. George News observed some cars honking and a man shouting at march participants.

Reporters GILLIAN FLACCUS and AMY TAXIN from The Associated Press contributed to this report.

It’s very very cute. But the problem is they’ve become too spoiled. They are all due for a year long stay in The Congo.

  • IPFreely June 30, 2018 at 2:14 pm

STOP BREAKING THE LAW MORONS!!!! Why don’t they have those signs? That would have kept their family together in the first place.

    • jaybird June 30, 2018 at 8:45 pm

Jailing children for a misdemeanor. TALK ABOUT A MORON. Fascism in America will show up wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross. Fascist pig.

      • RadRabbit June 30, 2018 at 11:37 pm

Blame their parents that put them into this situation. The 9th circuit court of appeals said back in 2014 they couldn’t be held with their parents, where were all you nuts back then? Oh yeah complacent cause Obama was in office.

        • jaybird June 30, 2018 at 11:56 pm

So obama charged them with a civil crime and let them be held together or released awaiting hearing. Get your story straight. Separations were only done in cases of safety or health. Yeah, all these protests just to show Trump whose boss. Ridiculous logic and fake news listener.

          • John July 1, 2018 at 12:05 am

            jailturd, you are an idiot,,

  • ladybugavenger June 30, 2018 at 2:39 pm

Families are broken up everyday here in the US. Oh wait! We are citizens. I forgot, the argument is, they are not citizens and running away from devastation for a better life.

Oh poor little non citizen families, we are so terrible to you. How will you ever forgive us. Heres a protest because we care about you more than our citizen families. Here is a sign that shows how much we care. Our President is awful and racist and we are here to show you. Can you see us? We want you to have free food and shelter until you get on your feet. Our President is mean and hateful. But we love you. We fight for you non citizen refugee immigrants that illegally cross the border because we should not have a zero tolerance policy, we should tolerate this. Bad Trump.

    • comments June 30, 2018 at 3:36 pm

You nailed it LB. They’re a bunch of hypocrites like bike and fish. They make these cute little signs and march up and down, but when it comes time to put their money where their mouths are I bet they disappear lickety-split like the hypocrites they are. How many of these clowns are willing to move desperate foreign nationals into the plentiful spare rooms of their big boxy houses?

      • bikeandfish June 30, 2018 at 8:23 pm

Too funny you are still running with that desperate line. No hypocrisy on my part. I support candidates and law that treats people humanely. But nice try.

I don’t march or protest much. Support those who do but I tend to think its a tool with low efficacy in these cases. I’d rather donate a little extra to causes I believe in, like I have the last two years.

If you knew my house size you would understand why I find your entire statement ridiculous.

        • comments June 30, 2018 at 10:53 pm

Then take a trip to the congo so I can stop recommending it to you like a broken record. Come back in a couple years and we’ll see if you still preach all this multi-cult diversity BS. still a hypocrite as far as i’m concerned

          • bikeandfish July 1, 2018 at 1:30 am

What is your Congo fascination about?

Multi-cult. You are good for a laugh when it comes to saying the ridiculous. Its just less fummy when I realize you actually believe your own words.

    • Badshitzoo June 30, 2018 at 3:42 pm

I heard you used to hang around the airports, and spit on the troops coming home, while yelling “baby killers aren’t welcome here” what drives all the hatred in you? That’s what memorizing the Turner Diaries gets you.

      • ladybugavenger June 30, 2018 at 5:26 pm

You talking to me? Oh you must be hanging out with my husbands ex wife, she said I screwed all the mongrels.
        ( misspelling probably)

I had to research who the mongels are.

And no, I dont spit on people.

Nobody cares what you think jailturd!

  • Not_So_Much June 30, 2018 at 3:25 pm

Fully fund and build the wall then redo the immigration system. Until then if you are discovered in the country illegally , no citizenship ever for you and those with you. Also no public benefits for life, so wait and do things within the system.

    • jaybird June 30, 2018 at 8:48 pm

Make sure we dont pay for it. FYI : 95% of contraband coming over the border comes by truck. Dupe.

  • Brian June 30, 2018 at 3:46 pm

    How cute, a virtue-signaling parade.

This is so partisan its pathetic. Funny how liberals didn’t march when Obama did the exact same thing, only WAY worse to WAY more kids. The media barely mentioned it.

The most humane thing we could possibly do is build a massive, well-guarded wall on the southern border, shutting down the flow of human trafficking, drug trafficking, and gun-running, and largely eliminating the “death train”. Make everyone come through the front door, using points of entry and consulates, which will check for human trafficking, sex trafficking, etc.

If the DNC actually cared about kids they’d be pushing for that. But they don’t, they care about elections and donations.

    • comments June 30, 2018 at 5:33 pm

your not kidding. They couldn’t even get any “latinos” out to march for their own, even legal citizen latinos. Bunch of idiot spoiled white people, craving diversity, who are long overdue for their stay in the congo.

      • comments June 30, 2018 at 5:34 pm

In modern times, with flights to about anywhere, they have no excuse not to visit the congo except for their own hypocrisy. hahaha 😉

      • RadRabbit June 30, 2018 at 6:33 pm

        so true!

    • bikeandfish June 30, 2018 at 8:33 pm

Can you show me where Obama:

      1) Chose to prosecute as many asylum seekers under “zero-tolerance” measures like Trump which

2)Requires separating families by federal law

Please do. Until then I’ll stick to the proof, that even Republicans respected until this backfired, that Obama chose to not prosecute most beyond misdeamenors which allowed most families to stay together through expedited Immigration hearings until deportation, except for those woyh valid asylum claims. Its all too funny and hypocritical to see people yell “catch ans release” out of one side of their yet try to claim Obama did the same and worse as Obama.

Per images….the Obama ones are of unaccompanied minors who crossed without families to be separated from.

Per protest… your statement is a reflection of the bubble you live in. Plenty of liberals protested him because of the historically high numbers of immigrants he deported. It was a big issue with his second term and escalated to multiple hearings being interrupted by protestors.

  • RadRabbit June 30, 2018 at 4:02 pm

What a bunch of mindless leftist, this has been the law of the land for years but now suddenly because Trump is in office its an issue, no one cared when Obama was President and this was happening or that the majority of the pictures of kids in cages are from the Obama Presidency but I guess facts don’t matter when you have Trump derangement syndrome. Build the wall so they can’t enter and we don’t have to arrest and seperate them but if they do enter they should be sent back immediately.

  • John June 30, 2018 at 4:28 pm

200 is a very generously exaggerated estimate, more like 50 or 60

    • RadRabbit June 30, 2018 at 4:46 pm

maybe we can deport them to California.

      • jaybird June 30, 2018 at 8:43 pm

There are some really stupid knotheads speaking up here. Utah low wages and the immigrants are the reason. Could it be you’re uneducated, always loo,ing for a handout and the church has held you back. Build the wall and Mexico is going to pay for it, except US taxpayers are going to pay for it. Building a future on lies is where you all belong. When corps are getting huge tax breaks that will take years to pay off, you are talking like you will be sitting in tall cotton with nothing to show for it. Talk about spoiled. Do you really think a bunch of billionaires care about you. Trumps crapper is gold while yours is DIY.

        • RadRabbit June 30, 2018 at 11:44 pm

  • asianspa June 30, 2018 at 4:34 pm

What about those of us that get separated from our families daily as we work 2 and 3 low paying wage slave jobs with repressed wages thanks to the nice influx of immigrants and the endless chain of migration. What is sad is these people think they are stopping racism but these open borders really just promote migration as we all wind up slaves to the upper corporate slavemaster class. These people are incredible clueless and are pawns.

    • bikeandfish June 30, 2018 at 8:37 pm

      A) The government isn’t forcibly removing kids from your home in that situation (which would be an apples to apples comparison)

      B) You know which candidates talk about wage slavery? I guarantee its not the ones on the right.

      C) Even Trump’s analysis, which he tried to suppress, shows that immigrants are a net positive to the economy and the idea they supress your wage is unsupported.

      • comments June 30, 2018 at 10:57 pm

Even senator bernard sanders admitted that the hordes of illegals in this country suppress wages. You’re full of BS today, fish.

Mind showing me that alleged data?

          • asianspa July 1, 2018 at 9:24 am

BNF =Google “Vox”+”Koch Brothers” , you will see an early interview Sanders with VOX which he calls out what immigration really is and what it means to the KOCH brothers. His implications is that enacting democratic socialism will make business pay up but also yes make immigrants, illegals, etc… pay up or get out too because being fair means NO CHEATING ANYWHERE! Not at the top or the bottom of the economy, No free rides.

          • bikeandfish July 1, 2018 at 10:10 am

Nice try. Show me the video where he shows how illegal immigrants repress American wages.

What I have seen is him discuss how guest worker programs are abused by businesses in a manner that hurts American workers. But those are positions for legal immigrants.

Learn to read the time stamps buddy.

          • comments July 1, 2018 at 5:23 pm

oops, my mistake, bike. Sometimes forget how this comment section works w/ the approval waiting times and such. cheers buddy 😉

With issues like this a lot of us seem to get a bit emotive. I find the hordes upon hordes of millions upon millions of illegals in this country to be offensive, and I want them shipped home. A lot of folks feel the same way. This is a problem that should’ve been dealt with 30 years ago, but it’s just been left to simmer and become much much worse and more illegals have flooded in, and with their absolutely massive birthrates the country has basically been taken over by illegals. Bike, for years I worked in an industry where we would directly compete with businesses that hired crews of illegal aliens, and I can personally attest that they drive down wages and make life shittier for citizens. As individual people I have no problem with illegals–they are often as good of people as any. But you get these hordes of them here and it changes the entire dynamic of the country–AND NOT FOR THE BETTER. I don’t want to live in a place that resembles mexico or some s. american s-hole. Maybe you do, bike. Because that’s what happens when they flood in in droves. It’s disgusting, and anyone who supports open borders like that is an enemy as far as I’m concerned. And all these garbage-minded leftists with their open borders ideas need to be sent to the Congo. They can go to the 3rd world instead of making the US into the “multi-cultural” 3rd world that they so desperately desire. IT’S ALL FILTH, AND I AND SO MANY OTHERS ARE FED UP WITH IT. There’s really no more to say on this issue. cheers 😉

      • asianspa July 1, 2018 at 8:59 am

        BikeTroll,

I am glad you got off your shift at the local call center to respond. 1) It isn’t the government but repressed wages due to policies they fully promote. We need fair trade and to stop creating the conditions which facilitate the demand for illegals to come here rather than work in their own country. They love sending our strong USD to their home country and mexico loves it… why don’t we address the root of the matter rather than promoting it with NAFTA?

        2) I have said it 100x and will say it again. I am a political atheist. I stand for principals , ethics, and consistency over a political party. You seem to like to argue politics thinking it was the Raiders game. You go check in, pick up your talking points off your twitter darlings and come over here to promulgate your inconsistent idiocy.

        3) You seem to on one hand call Habitat for Humanity locally a success and creating meaningful impact with their only 1 home per year being built, yet the massive influx of illegals and their generations of children have no impact on the labor market?? You are better at English than math , logic , and reasoning. Then you use your irrelevant stats about immigration being the lowest in years, which 1st is irrelevant in it being a problem and is relative to prior years. Whether or not it is a problem is quantitative not relative and also neglects the damage done by their natural born children which manifests itself later.

Do you think it is fair that someone comes here illegally and is willing to take any job, at any price, at any business for cash under the table being desperate and new to this country and some business owner can take advantage of them? They never are able to get legal even if they want to and business after business takes advantage of this and then of course guess who has to compete with them at their lower wage?? WE ALL DO! WAGES START FROM THE BOTTOM UP! Go talk to anybody in construction or in the restaurant business… .Illegals and their uneducated offspring have destroyed industries for the gain of the new slave owner, corporate america. You think your policy is anti racism but it promotes it in the purest and sickest way. Look up the history of the minimum wage… the slave owners realized that if they allowed the newly freed slaves to compete at any price they would be taken advantage of in the short term but little by little THEIR own standards of living would erode and the longterm wasn’t worth it.

Seriously Bikeandfish WEAR A HELMET in the future and do some better research. No wonder you are a failed adjunct wannabe stuck working at a call center..

Asianspa has made as many wild guesses as John, and they are all qrong. Entertaining again, but wrong.

I love how standing up for humane treatment of asylum seekers (which is the current context) leads y’all to such wild speculation and assumptions.

          • ladybugavenger July 1, 2018 at 12:33 pm

I’ll tell you why b&f: Americans first! Secure border first! Take care of our homeless, hungry, underpaid workers that cant afford rent with 2 jobs, first!

American citizens first! That’s all b&f.
Secure border first! Then we can change immigration laws. If you change immigration laws before securing border and putting citizens first- we all lose. The younger generation wont be able to find housing, jobs, or a job to pay for food and housing and we are going to have 6 working people living in a 3 bedroom home with kids, just to afford rent and food (you know, like the illegals do now in st george)

It’s not about being humane or inhumane, its about putting priorities in order- America citizens first!

          • bikeandfish July 1, 2018 at 1:56 pm

            LBA,

Do you even know the history of thr phrase “America First”? Trump didn’t pick it out of thin air or accidentally. Words and phrases have meanings tied to history that come along with them. Especially when Bannon helped cater them with his “globalism” dog whistle.

Here is just one exploration of the phrase:

            https://www.theguardian.com/books/2018/apr/21/end-of-the-american-dream-the-dark-history-of-america-first

You and other Trump cronies are either intentionally tapping into some nasty history or are unwittingly being duped. Given your comfort and support of Trump’s willingness to bypass due process I’m starting to think its the first option.

          • ladybugavenger July 1, 2018 at 2:02 pm

Oh and this isn’t a trump thing, this is how I’ve felt since high school. 30 years, ive watched illegals become more important than citizens.

          • ladybugavenger July 1, 2018 at 2:38 pm

Listen, I couldnt care any less about History. I dont take it as fact. It’s someone like you or me writing down our perspective of what’s going on at the time.

I listen to people going through what they are going through on an individual level. And let me tell you. Life isn’t all based on fact check.

We are in the now! Not the past. We all have a history full of pain and suffering (well, maybe not you and that’s unfortunate)

          • bikeandfish July 1, 2018 at 2:47 pm

            LBA,

I am fully aware you are post fact. You are the epitome of that problem.

It also seems you are the soil that is ripe for those planting seeds of fascism. You seem fine with the government ignoring constitutional protections as long as it starts against the scapegoats you seem to hate.

You are the reactive, uneducated masses Trump manipulates for his own benefit. History won’t be any kinder to you than I am right now.

          • ladybugavenger July 1, 2018 at 3:03 pm

I just told you, it’s something I’ve seen since high school and you are going to bring up trump and history. Oh my! You are as clueless and out of touch as one can get.

          • bikeandfish July 1, 2018 at 4:44 pm

            LBA,

Practice your reading comprehension. Soil exists before the seed is planted. All of your past experiences that have created your xenophobic angst make you rife for political manipulation. I seriously doubt you value fascism, considering your constant complaining about an allegedly improper federal case against your family. But you are willing to throw others under the bus when enough campaign slogans play to your own biases and need for catharsis. That is how scapegoating works and its a consistent tool of fascists.

If you have always been fine with fascism than you are beneath contempt and deserve the worst your god has for such immorality.

          • ladybugavenger July 1, 2018 at 5:32 pm

I don’t really care what you say, it’s meaningless. You’re like a ship in the ocean being tossed to and fro. You don’t stand on solid ground. You are actually a dangerous person.

          • bikeandfish July 1, 2018 at 6:17 pm

            LBA,

Its a cute retort but empty of substance.

The ground I stand on is based on liberty and constitutional protections, not the reactionary “law and order” rhetoric of demogouges.

At the end of the day you disguise some of the most unchristian rhetoric I have ever seen under the banner of your god. You are the first person in history to be misguided enough to think you could superficially understand Christianity while supporting inhumane and malicious law.

Its funny to me that I’ve learned more from your religions prophets and saviour then you, the alleged Christian. If I hadn’t met so many selfish late in life Christian converts I would be shocked;but I’ve met your ilk before and I know your hypocrisy all to well.

(PS…if you don’t know Jesus was all about calling out the inhumane hypocrisy of self-proclaimed Christians as a sign of mercy than you truly lack a fundamental understanding of your religion)

          • bikeandfish July 1, 2018 at 6:18 pm

Oops, *aren’t, history is riddled with malicious, self- interested “Christians”

          • ladybugavenger July 1, 2018 at 6:42 pm

            Like I said, you’re dangerous.

          • bikeandfish July 1, 2018 at 7:18 pm

The only thing I am dangerous to is your misplaced comfort and complacency. But comfort is not long lasting for those who support demogouges. We learn about your type in history. You’ll do anything to justify the unjustifiable.

But at least we live in era in which you own your ignorance and lack of care for fact and history.

Its been stated that “when fascism comes to America it will be be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.”. Its origin isn’t known (not Sinclair Lewis as oft stated) but most of us know it be true.

You are no patriot, LBA. And you clearly haven’t applied the deeper lessons, ie beyond personal salvation, of Christianity. The Nazis also enforced “law and order”. We aren’t to their levels of inhumanity but making asylum seekers suffer for your sense of misplaced righteousness is pretty far down the road from liberty and justice.

You proclaim to be an intellectual elite but can’t do a simple Google search?? It is a Vox article by Ezra Klein, it was Bernie Sanders first interview where he laid out his platform and his beliefs. I am not a democratic socialist but he pretty much nailed it when it comes to the impact of extreme liberal open borders.

        Ezra Klein
You said being a democratic socialist means a more international view. I think if you take global poverty that seriously, it leads you to conclusions that in the US are considered out of political bounds. Things like sharply raising the level of immigration we permit, even up to a level of open borders. About sharply increasing …

        Bernie Sanders
Open borders? No, that’s a Koch brothers proposal.

        Ezra Klein
        Really?

        Bernie Sanders
Of course. That’s a right-wing proposal, which says essentially there is no United States. …

        Ezra Klein
        But it would make …

        Bernie Sanders
        Excuse me …

        Ezra Klein
It would make a lot of global poor richer, wouldn’t it?

        Bernie Sanders
It would make everybody in America poorer —you’re doing away with the concept of a nation state, and I don’t think there’s any country in the world that believes in that. If you believe in a nation state or in a country called the United States or UK or Denmark or any other country, you have an obligation in my view to do everything we can to help poor people. What right-wing people in this country would love is an open-border policy. Bring in all kinds of people, work for $2 or $3 an hour, that would be great for them. I don’t believe in that. I think we have to raise wages in this country, I think we have to do everything we can to create millions of jobs.

You know what youth unemployment is in the United States of America today? If you’re a white high school graduate, it’s 33 percent, Hispanic 36 percent, African American 51 percent. You think we should open the borders and bring in a lot of low-wage workers, or do you think maybe we should try to get jobs for those kids?

I think from a moral responsibility we’ve got to work with the rest of the industrialized world to address the problems of international poverty, but you don’t do that by making people in this country even poorer.

        • bikeandfish July 1, 2018 at 12:08 pm

I’m not going to do your work for you. Its your job to support your own claim. If someone wants me to provide a source for a claim I make, I provide it. Its 101 of basic discourse.

You exaggerate Sanders claim. He is describing the guest worker program which is notorious for lying about lack of American workers to fill positions to intentionally deflate wages. He’s also tackling the myth that most liberals support open borders (they don’t but Trump uses the line to manipulate folks like LBA). This is all part of legal immigration.

What he’s not doing is saying is we need to scapegoat immigrants for wage repression. He does, like most of us, recognize its a complex situation that needs to be solved. I agree and I don’t support “open borders”.

I support comprehensive immigration reform. I believe in prosecuting and deporting violent illegal immigrants. I support treating asylum seekers humanely. I support challenging the economic status quo that leads to depressed wages but I don’t believe in scapegoating one class of people for that, especially when their net benefits is documented.

          • IPFreely July 1, 2018 at 12:34 pm

Mainly cuz BF doesn’t know how to work

          • asianspa July 1, 2018 at 12:58 pm

Bike andFish… He was not referring to guest worker programs , READ the whole interview… the logical basis is the same. MORE CHEAP unskilled labor = poorer country overall. I love how you argue , deflect, but refute the basic logical basis.

I am very much for immigration reform and a MERIT based immigration system much like Australia. I am for humane treatment and that to me doesn’t mean we have a class of noncitizen or temporary green card holders undermining another class degrading themselves, impacting real estate prices, while suppressing and impacting the labor force.

Bernie DID scapegoat in some form as he clearly says it… large amounts of unskilled workers SIMPLY impact the labor market. It is a form of market manipulation and you are taking the partisan bait Bike… Yes lets make this into a binary logic issue and fail to see that the rhino repub side and the liberal side promotes nothing more than the erosion of our society and furthers into the pit of economic doom. The corporate shills are going to proclaim themselves to be too magnanimous in hiring and giving an immigrant a “chance” but what they are really doing is only wishing to help themselves as they know they are just inflating the margins. How many TRULY want to care for an immigrant? Will they sponsor them? Will they send their children to college? Will they send their new illegal or temporary legal immigrant worker to college ? HELL NO.

These problems begin with our trade policy, the corporate greed, and YES with your little precious illegals that are so desperate they allow themselves to be exploited … Little by little the problem is now what it is. This is racist and wrong and if we want to help them we should but we are only going to be able to from a position of tough love and strength.

BikeandFish.. this is basic economics. Net Benefits come at a cost and if you look at the longterm it isn’t justified and the net benefit only benefits the RICH and Ultra rich… you are an odd democrat if you are arguing a cause for the rich but most that are married to their (D) are just happy hypocrites living in their beuracrat bubbles Economic diversity which is a both a symptom and a cause of a healthy economy always promotes a larger tax base rather than a Rich VS poor economy which is about what we have locally as 45% are considered poor.

          • bikeandfish July 1, 2018 at 1:34 pm

            Asianspa,

Never said I was a democrat. Nor am I. About as independent and moderate as they come, hece the antagonism from both sides.

Also never said I was an “intellectual elite”. If you want to have a serious conversation then stop putting words in my mouth, its a cowardly and fallacious strategy.

I read the Klein and Sanders interview (ps, I normally stay away from the clear bias of Vox) here:

            https://www.vox.com/2015/7/28/9014491/bernie-sanders-vox-conversation

Please show me, quoting his own words, where he blames immigrants for repressing wages. If you mean to say the clear winner is big business seeking cheap labor through “open borders” then I agree that Sanders was saying that. But big business does that through the “guest worker” program which is legal Immigration. Most undocumented workers don’t take jobs from Americans because of how readily companies verify legal residency. Trust me, I’ve done big hiring and getting past the I-9 and E-Verify process is not easy for most businesses. Nor is it cheap if caught. Its better to outsource than to get caught scamming that process stateside if doing it large scale. Hence why we need to try to repatriate money.

If you are assuming I’m against comprehensive trade policy then you are wrong again. You can’t logically extrapolate that from any statements I’ve made about the humane treatment of these Asylum seekers. In fact, the only statement I’ve made in the past few weeks remotely about that issue recognizes we would all be better off tackling the core issues affecting central America and stemming the problem at the source. It’s the only way ti meaningfully deal with these diasporas affecting the world right now.

Fully aware immigrant workers are a complex issue. My entire gestalt on this site is highlighting that against the simplistic sloganeering of both sides (starting to see that I’m obviously not a democrat?). Maybe stop making assumptions and filling in the blanks incorrectly and you’d recognize that sooner. But from your ridiculous ad hominem attacks I’m guessing you don’t want to play by rational guidelines. Feel free to prove me wrong.

If you are working 2 to 3 jobs to make ends meet, your time is up. A $30 trillion bill is soon coming due. Havent you heard? By 2028 our national debt will be more than our entire economy and Trump is spending like a mad Greek – $1 trillion in his first 6 mos. And you think the immigrants who work menial jobs are to blame. Whoa you are a bag of nails.

      • asianspa July 1, 2018 at 9:06 am

Oh jaybird… the time is coming! you are right… I agree on you there. Our national debt basically IS our economy. Consume, consume, consume… The illegals are NOT to blame entirely but they don’t help you or me unless you are a local businessman enjoying the fruits of their cheap labor. Everify is a joke and I work as an auditor, Everify is easy to bypass… put your illegal or pseudo legal on the books and book them at 0 hours… then just pay them under the table. There you go Everify compliant… not state or federal tax compliant but that is different audit and easy to beat…

  • utahdiablo June 30, 2018 at 9:08 pm

Come to the USA legally…or don’t come…these so called “Parents” who willfully brought their children across the border illegally, or allowed the drug smugglers to use their child as a pawn, to have the border agent look the other way as drugs continue to pour into America…go protest those so called “parents”….but just remember, We, the Law Abiding side of America, out number you all and that is why Trump was elected, to end this BS

    • jaybird June 30, 2018 at 11:32 pm

Law abiding. What a joke. The broken bunch of methheads who believe working 3 jobs to get by makes you great. Thats how brainwashed you are.

    • jaybird June 30, 2018 at 11:38 pm

Trump was elected because of dilberts like you who were brainwashed by his and Putins Bullsh*t that you would be better off a nd because republicans are dumb. Trump even said he would run on the republ7can ticket because of it. The republicans have taken away much of your open land for drilling, deregulated clean water and air and Your still in denial. The Russians got him in. They love liars like him. Obviously you do too. Stick your head back in that dumpster you live in.

      • RadRabbit July 1, 2018 at 12:03 am

Trump sure has fooled us that liberal judge Gorsuch he appointed or that leftist Mike Lee he’s looking at replacing Kennedy with you got it all figured out I guess. I wonder who he’ll replace Ginsburg with next???

  • DenbeeDilbert June 30, 2018 at 9:29 pm

I was there and we had at least 200 & we did have Hispanics but most we out working the low paying grunt jobs white Americans won’t do. Why not pick on the FLDS, the biggest welfare recipients & lawbreakers in Washington County.

    • comments June 30, 2018 at 11:03 pm

So “they do the jobs Americans won’t do”? In other words its OK to keep them as slaves? They do the jobs because they are garbage paid jobs–that’s why citizens won’t. And they are garbage paid jobs because illegals are exploited into doing them. It’s a vicious little circle. And all this seems ok to you? The plyg cults, as bad as they are, are still a teensy tiny minority compared to the tens-of-millions-strong hordes of illegal foreign nationals in this country. A trip to the congo is in order for you 😉

    • asianspa July 1, 2018 at 9:15 am

Jobs Americans Won’t do? hmm ahem… *jobs Americans won’t do for the cheap wages offered because most Americans are smart enough to understand picking strawberries is okay for a season or two when you are younger but NOT as a career.

You disgust me , if this problem was as serious as you claim you and your protestors would’t be happy, smiling, and posing like you are at a relief society quilting party. Is this a cause or a fashion statement? It is fashionable to hate Trump and all things Trump… Great news for you,… H&M is opening in the mall… be sure to pick up a shirt you actually hate so you can walk around with an H&M bag in the mall and keep up with your fashion statements.

If you truly believe the illegals are escaping war like conditions would you or would you not support military intervention??

PS. Why weren’t your protesting Japan Massage ? They are right on St George Blvd and it is not exactly a secret what is going on there? There were illegal immigrants being enslaved to other illegal immigrants forced into prostitution. Do you only show up to protest if it is a photo op or do you really care about human rights?

      • bikeandfish July 1, 2018 at 2:11 pm

I think you are working with gross stereotypes.

First, I think most people protest because historically it was a powerful tool. I personally think its not very effective at these issues. You may be shocked, given your previous assumptions, but protest and protest slogans just aren’t effective at tackling the complexity of the problem here. And its a huge international problem.

Per military….I would hope most people are against invading a sovereign nation. I would hope we’ve learned that disastrous lesson. Nor does it account for our historic role in Central Americas problems (at least in the 3 relevant countries). Don’t forget, MS-13 started as a gang in America.

But we do need to do something as the humanitarian crisis is real and America seems less inclined to take in many immigrants seeking asylum right now. I have yet to hear a politician on either side of the aisle offer a comprehensive solution or even first attempt at this issue. Hence the escalating problem at the border. Its not going to get better until we change our approach; and a wall doesn’t stem the problem in this case (per LBA persistent sloganeering).

To be honest, I’m not sure most of us have a clue how to deal with the current issue. Which seems to be the case internationally given how many diasporas we are seeing.

  • jaybird June 30, 2018 at 9:53 pm

Ed: your choice of the word “plead” in the headline is disingenuous when 100s of thousands marchex across the country for this cause against fascist fkrces here. No one is pleading. By our numbers we demand.

    • RadRabbit June 30, 2018 at 11:57 pm

Leftist snowflakes can only beg and plead no matter how many decide to get off their couch and put the bong down for the day. Democrats only want as many illegal immigrants here as they can so they will have more voters in the future.

    • John July 1, 2018 at 9:08 am

Jailturd , we all know you get your talking points from “LIBTARD TALKING POINTS OF THE DAY” website(all fake all the time). We also notice you have not gotten anything done about that Trump Derangement Syndrome. He lives in your head rent free 24/7 and you are in perpetual meltdown. What will you be like when the blue wave turns out to be a trickle out of a leaky porta potty? I know a lot of us will be laughing at YOU! hahahahahahahahahahaha!

  • DenbeeDilbert July 1, 2018 at 9:45 am

Asianspa I am well aware of the prostitution massage businesses. I go to American owned spas. A group I belong had a panel discussion on exploitation, the police need to crack down on those places, arrest the managers/owners and give them higher bail so they stay in jail till their trial. Now they get out and disappear. Enforce the laws, make sure the women are licensed and the business has a permit. I have written and called local, state and federal officials on this matter, have you?

    • asianspa July 1, 2018 at 10:19 am

I can’t say exactly what I have done as I work in an agency in support of LE and don’t wish to dox myself here… but I will put it like this.. I have done MORE than my fair share and if this stupid prostitution front opens up again and a march is arranged in front of it in protest, I WILL JOIN IT gladly.

      • bikeandfish July 1, 2018 at 2:17 pm

PS… we seem to disagree or misunderstand each other on other issues but I can appreciate any work being done to prosecute these massage parlor prostitution rings in St George. I’m tired of these owners getting slaps on the wrists for what sounds like serious human trafficking crimes. I hope your work pays off asI know its an uphill battle sometimes.

  • IPFreely July 1, 2018 at 10:18 am

I totally agree that children should not be split from their parents. As Americans we tech to follow the rules and respect others,American has rules and those who choose to not abide by them get punished. Sad that the parents aren’t willing to go through the paper work that needs to be done in their own country to be allowed to America the free. If we keep letting this happen we are going to have the issues that other countries are having. We have all done right and wrong and there are consequences what they maybe is unjust like seperting families, I’m sorry it is just for our freedom. Live by the rules.

There’s no guarantee that he will live through it. He better run out cuz if he/she comes towards me, I’ll try and shoot low to not kill him/her. But no guarantee of where my bullet will end up.

I’m pretty sure I have neighbors that wont test me because most of my neighbors own guns and would do the same thing.

  • IPFreely July 1, 2018 at 8:25 pm

Exactly… no matter what these blowhard libtards say illegals must go and stop coming in illegally. I say it again… STOP BREAKING THE LAW MORONS!!!!!

  • ladybugavenger July 1, 2018 at 9:56 pm

Heres my fix: build the wall! Secure the border. Give all illegals 6 months to apply for citizenship, charge $1000 each and use that money to partially pay for the wall. After 6 months, if you get caught being illegal, you’re deported. You get caught crossing the border illegally- zero tolerance!

    • ladybugavenger July 1, 2018 at 10:06 pm

As a President this would have to be kept secret from the public. If it is not kept then you will have millions and millions crossing illegally to partake in this great deal.

Because, he cant get the wall, he went with zero tolerance.

Perhaps, our president has a great deal that he wants to utilize, like the one I proclaim, but he needs the wall first. Give him the wall, secure the border, and the illegals here will get citizenship. Try it, it may work out like that.

Why is it that leftist idiots are so eager to turn this country into something resembling the worst parts of guatemala or mexico or something? This is why I want to get them to the Congo. They are so spoiled rotten that they don’t realize how good they’ve got it. After their 2 years in the Congo they’ll be straightened out. Reality will have worn away this delusional leftist multi-cult fairytale nonsense that they so believe in now. They’re rotten spoiled delusional hypocrites and this is why i want them sent to the congo.
