Weekend weather forecast: Great weekend for getting out in Southern Utah, but the earlier the better

ST. GEORGE — According to the National Weather Service, this weekend’s weather for most of Southern Utah is expected to be warm for all three days, with slight winds in the afternoon. However, with red flag warnings and fire watches in effect, officials are asking travelers and recreationists to be careful out there.

Read on for your St. George, Cedar City, Zion National Park and Lake Powell weekend weather forecast.

St. George

Friday

Forecast includes a high of 99 during the day and a low of 67 in the evening. Slight winds of 5-7 mph are expected during the day.

Saturday

Sunny with a high of 101 and low of 70 the evening. Winds will pick up from 13 to 18 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday

High of 97 and a low of 64 in the evening, with 8 mph winds in the afternoon.

Cedar City

Friday

Sunny with a high of 86 and a low around 58 in the evening, with winds of 5 to 13 mph during the day.

Saturday

Sunny with a high of 86 and low of 59 in the evening. South-Southwest winds during the afternoon could gust up to 41 mph and 38 mph in the evening.

Sunday

High of 83 and low of 48. Winds in the afternoon will be 8 to 11 mph.

Zion National Park

  • A red flag warning is in effect for this area from Saturday afternoon to Sunday night. See “Warnings and advisories” below for more details.

Friday

Friday’s forecast near the park will be a high of 98 and low of 65, with winds of 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday

Hot with a high of 101 and low 65. Winds of 17 to 22 mph are expected in the morning.

Sunday

Sunny with a high near 96 and low around 60, with winds of 8 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Lake Powell

Friday

Friday’s forecast near the lake will be sunny with a high near 94 and low of 62. There will be winds of 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday

Hot with a high near 97 and low around 63. Winds can gust as high as 25 mph throughout the day and evening.

Sunday

Sunny with a high of 95 and low of 59. Winds can gust up to 30 mph in the afternoon.

Warnings and advisories

A red flag warning for the St. George area will be in effect from Saturday to Sunday evening. Outdoor burning during this time is not recommended. A red flag warning is also in effect for the Lake Powell area all day Saturday, while a fire weather watch has been issued for Sunday.

The National Weather Service has also issued a wind advisory in effect Saturday from noon to midnight for west central and southwest Utah, which includes areas along Interstate 15 near Cedar City.
