Police seek suspect in Washington City bank robbery, ask public’s help

WASHINGTON CITY – Police responded to the report of a bank robbery in Washington City Wednesday and are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect.

A man wearing a baseball cap entered the Chase Bank at 715 West Telegraph St. around 3 p.m. and handed a teller a handwritten note demanding money, according to a statement from the Washington City Police.

The suspect was given the money and left the bank. No weapon was observed by witnesses, and no injuries resulted from the incident, according to police.

The suspect is described as a middle-aged Caucasian male, approximately 5 foot 10 inches tall with a slender build. He was further described as having an unshaven or “scruffy” face. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a black running jacket and shorts. No hair could be seen protruding from under the cap.

Wally Brown and his wife, who live in Page, Arizona, were in the bank when the robbery occurred and were unaware anything had happened until after the suspect left.

“We were opening an account and sitting with the loan officer,” Brown said. “Behind us is where all of this took place, but we really didn’t see that much, but the loan officer was looking over our shoulders and he was aware something was going on.”

The loan officer kept the couple talking until the suspect exited the building and staff locked the doors behind him.

“It was over and done, and we were just wondering what all the excitement was,” Brown said. “We knew something was going on, we just didn’t know it was a bank robbery. … The guy snuck in and robbed the bank and on he went.”

The suspect is reported to have left eastbound on foot, according to police.

Washington City Police officers and FBI agents arrived soon after to investigate the robbery. Washington County Sheriff’s deputies were also on hand. Police cleared the scene by around 4:40 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.

“comments” is right…If they want the public’s help in identifying a bank robber, don’t use the same model cameras that were used for the 1960’s era soviet space program. All I tell you from that photo is that… it is probably not me….. “Of course if If all you’re goin’ on is my confession, forget it, I’m simply not credible.”
