ST. GEORGE — A woman was killed from injuries sustained in a fall into Lake Powell near Page, Arizona, Sunday.
Malesta Littleman, 36, of Lechee, Arizona, fell off a cliff into the lake at about noon on Sunday, according to a press release from the National Park Service. The fall took place in the Chains area, which is at the southern end of the lake near the Glen Canyon Dam.
The woman was pulled from the water by a nearby boat before being transferred to a National Park Service vessel. She was still alive inside the National Park Service boat when rangers started to perform lifesaving measures on her, said Mary Plumb, a public information officer for the National Park Service.
She was taken to the Wahweap dock, where emergency responders with the Page Fire Department continued to try to save her life until she could be flown by helicopter to the Banner Page Hospital in Page.
“She was still alive until she reached the (emergency room), where she was pronounced deceased,” Plumb said.
After being pronounced dead, the woman’s body was taken to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office in Flagstaff, Arizona.
The extent of the woman’s injuries before her death is not known at this time, and the events that led up to the woman falling off the cliff are still under investigation by the National Park Service and Page Police Department, Plumb said.
The name of the deceased woman was identified as Malesta Littleman, of Lechee, Arizona.
