HURRICANE — Hurricane Police are urging people to lock their cars after 11 vehicles were burglarized and one stolen in the course of a single day.

The theft and burglaries were reported Thursday in the Dixie Springs area in Hurricane, officer Ken Thomson told St. George News.

“Lots” of property was taken from the vehicles, Hurricane Police said in a Facebook post, including one firearm.

“Not one of these vehicles were locked,” the post reads. “Several of these vehicles had the keys left inside them, including the one stolen.”

The vehicle that was stolen was later recovered by officers in Hurricane, Thomson said.

There could be more vehicles affected by the burglary spree that weren’t reported, he noted.

Hurricane Police remind drivers of the following to help avoid car burglaries:

  • Roll up your windows.
  • Remove your vehicle keys from the vehicle.
  • Remove all valuables and firearms from the vehicle.
  • Lock your vehicle.

As someone who’s lived in a few major cities I really don’t understand the leaving your car unlocked thing. And leaving a key inside the car as well? This area is not the friendly little tight knit mormon community it was 30 years ago. People are gonna have to smarten up.

There’s trained and there is untrained.
I completely understand what you are saying. I dont even keep my doors unlocked to run inside my house for a minute.

Who has time to lock their car doors and remove valuables? I live a busy Southern Utah life, I got 2 jobs, a soon to be flourishing multi level marketing business (yes I am an entrepreneur,…or so they tell me in my weekly sales guru meetings). I also have to keep all my friends and neighbors that I secretly can’t stand updated on instagram with a steady stream of pictures of my perfect house, wife, new used car etc,… Then of course I got my church job which really doesn’t count because I just go to church and spout off cliches when I get lost or show up unprepared and nobody knows the difference so that really doesn’t matter much to me. I just don’t have time to lock my car doors!
