ST. GEORGE — Southern Utah-based YouTuber and esports enthusiast Jared Caplin, known among competitive video gamers as J Cap, is throwing a gaming tournament and party at Buffalo Wild Wings in St. George Friday night.

Jared Caplin has secured major support for the event from “Call of Duty” series publisher Activision and Major League Gaming, a global leader in professional-level esports.

Excited to support J Cap’s ambition to bring a taste of professional-level tournaments to a smaller venue, the companies have pledged their support in the form of equipment for the event and future ones like it.

Jared Caplin has been growing his presence online with a popular YouTube channel featuring videos highlighting his trips to esports events, gameplay footage and video blogging. He has also become a regular attendee of Major League Gaming competitions at venues across the country where large audiences watch professional gamers compete against each other.

“My most competitive game I love to play is ‘Call of Duty,’” Jared Caplin said. “Just something about it makes me want to do good and help out a team, and it just makes my heart race.”

Jared Caplin has muscular dystrophy and said, despite his limitations, he is determined to live out his dreams.

In one year, he has established a YouTube channel with over 400 subscribers, made connections with powerful video game executives and held other gaming events in Southern Utah, including the successful “J Cap’s 1st Annual Blazin’ Challenge” in May.
