ST. GEORGE – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and others responded to the report of a death in Snow Canyon State Park Tuesday afternoon.

A 49-year-old woman who was hiking with a companion on the Lava Flow Trail experienced a medical incident that resulted in her death, Washington County Sheriff’s Lt. Dave Crouse said.

The woman’s companion called 911 around 3:15 p.m.

While Crouse was able to confirm that the woman and her companion weren’t local to the area, no other information, such as the woman’s name, will be released to the public due to privacy laws.

The woman’s body was retrieved from the trail by responders and taken to a local mortuary.
