CEDAR CITY — Creiton and Porter Hollingshead combined for five total touchdowns as the Beaver Beavers blew by the Canyon View Falcons 46-0 Friday night in Cedar City.

Creiton threw for one TD and ran for another, while Porter threw two touchdowns, one of which was a 36-yard bomb to Spencer Williams, and caught one 30-yard touchdown from Tyce Raddon. The TD pass from Raddon was a timing route in which Raddon threw the ball before Porter had finished his cut.

The win was the eighth straight for Beaver, dating back to last year for the defending 2A state champions.

New Canyon View head coach Skyler Miller lost his debut with the Falcons and will no doubt look to turn his team around next week.

Miller showed his aggressiveness early on in the game, electing not to punt on his own 29-yard line in the Falcons first offensive possession. The attempt was unsuccessful.

Miller again elected not to punt when faced with a fourth down and 2 yards to go, and again was unsuccessful. Once again the attempt was from the Falcons side of the field. The Beavers were able to capitalize with the great field position and scored several touchdowns off turnovers.

No one can say that Miller is not trying to have fun and connect with his guys.

Miller even called a timeout with four seconds left to set up a play. His team already down 46-0, he wanted his players to have fun. The Falcons ran a “fumblerooski” type play, and ended up in the Beaver backfield before being taken down around midfield as time expired.

Despite the lopsided loss, Canyon View players rallied around their coach in his debut on the sidelines.

But it’s hard to sugar-coat a 46-0 loss. The Beavers forged a 19-0 lead at then end of the first quarter and it had ballooned to 32-0 by halftime. Beaver’s final 14 points came in the third quarter and spurred the high school mercy-rule clock.

The Falcons opened with Beaver last year, losing a 41-14 decision, en route to an 0-4 start. But Canyon View closed the year by winning four of its final six regular season games, plus a playoff loss to Juan Diego. The Falcons are playing without graduated star Isaiah Shearer and quarterback Stockton Rigby, who is injured, but may return within a couple of weeks.

Canyon View plays next week at Virgin Valley High School in Mesquite, NV at 7:00 p.m. MST.
