Car narrowly misses house, knocks down tree and fence before stopping

ST. GEORGE — A homeowner is sighing with relief Tuesday after the driver of a black Infiniti sedan lost control about 4:15 p.m. and left the roadway. The Infiniti drove through the front yard, took out fencing and trees and crashed to a stop with its rear wheels about 2 feet off the ground, without hitting the house.

“It appears the (Infiniti) was traveling northbound on Valley View,” St. George Police Officer Mike Christensen said. “It appears he crossed over into oncoming lanes, up over the sidewalk through the chain link fence and upended some trees.”

Christensen said the 26-year-old driver was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George with minor injuries. No one at the home was injured.

Christensen added the driver will be cited for unsafe lane travel. The Infiniti was badly damaged in the mishap and was towed from the yard after being pulled off the fence.

Units from St. George Police and Fire departments and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Correction! The black Infiniti sedan didn’t lose control, the driver of the black Infiniti sedan lost control and the car obliged.

What happened near the bridge on Valley View? A car plowed through a brick wall causing WAY more damage than this, to a wall and a HOUSE, and there has been NO mention of it. The house had bricks on the roof because it was it so hard. All of the windows were broken on that side, yet no mention. That was 2 weeks ago.

Real Life, I think I remember the incident you are referring to. If I recall correctly, we were unfortunately unable to get enough information to get out a report in a timely fashion. But please continue to keep us informed either here or on our Facebook page as you hear of things like this happening.

if all this was is “unsafe lane travel” I’d hate to see what constitutes a reckless driving charge. Maybe it’s required that a person mows down at least 3 pedestrians to qualify for a reckless driving charge in stg.

Unfortunately I think you’re right, Bob. We drove past the accident site this morning. You can’t ask for a more wide-open stretch – 4 lane road, moderate traffic, very good visibility. None of which matters when a driver is busy texting. Why is is that Utah can pass tougher driving laws for DUIs, but not for texting/hand-on cell phone use?
