ST. GEORGE — Police arrested an 18-year-old man Friday suspected of causing more than $5,000 worth of graffiti damage in St. George.

“Recently, the west side of St. George has been hit with a significant amount of graffiti,” St. George Police Officer Lona Trombley said in a message posted to the department’s Facebook page.

The property damage as a result of the graffiti is estimated at well over $5,000, Trombley added.

Following an investigation by school resource officers and the St. George Police Department’s gang unit, a search warrant was obtained and executed Friday at the St. George residence of Salvador Mejia.

“During service of the search warrant, several pieces of evidence were located,” Trombley said. “Investigators recognized these drawings as being consistent with the recent graffiti.”

Mejia was identified by police as the suspect in the case.

During police questioning, Mejia allegedly admitted to the acts of graffiti, Trombley said.

Salvador was subsequently arrested and charged with criminal mischief over $5,000, according to police.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

We should send him down to the border to help build the wall

Have “you people” ever considered that maybe your precious “wall” is not really to keep illegals out, but to keep us in…

Obviously you’ve never been to Mexico; however, I think your proposition would have merit if it were the LDS Church building a wall around Utah to keep the true believers in. Outside of Utah Mormons are just normal people. Utah is the only place I’ve found the, indoctrinated from birth, semi-brainwashed, cult of personality types en masse. But let’s be clear, this isn’t North Korea either.

Clamp down on employers who hire illegals and we wouldn’t need a wall. $1000 fine for each offense of hiring an illegal. If this was done 20 years ago and enforced… imagine. What is it now 1/2 of US school children now hispanic/latino. The US is a conquered nation. Mexico won.

I would just like a clarification on the St George police “Gang” unit. This newspaper always refers to this unit. The unit introduces themselves as a gang unit. But when asked in court proceedings they deny they are a gang unit. Does the St George police have a gang unit? How many officers are assigned to this unit? What is the units budget?
