SALT LAKE CITY — A critical witness in the corruption trial of former Utah Attorney General John Swallow is refusing to testify.
Jeremy Johnson took the witness stand late Wednesday and refused to answer questions under oath, citing his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.
“I’ve been advised I shouldn’t answer any questions in here today,” Johnson said.

Judge Elizabeth Hruby-Mills found him in contempt of court and sentenced him to 30 days in the Salt Lake County Jail. She ordered him returned to court Thursday morning to see if he would change his mind.
Johnson would not answer questions from lawyers in the case, even after Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill offered an immunity deal to him. His attorneys, Mary Corporon and Karra Porter, said they worried that federal prosecutors would still use his words against him.

All we were asking is that he tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth………..
Lost some weight, looking good JJ. The federal time felony diet.
I’m sure the 30 days in SLC county lockup will do a lot of good. It will give “this poor misguided fella” a break from the federal lockup. smh
I can’t wait to see the conspiracy theory that Bob dreams up on this story ! LOL
Take a break party boy.
This is the problem with the United States judicial system. Its broken. You can be granted immunity or acquitted on a state level, and then get criminally prosecuted on a federal level. This is plain and simple “DOUBLE JEOPARDY” I don’t care how you look at it, but it is. I don’t blame Mr. Johnson for refusing to testify after he had already been lied to by the feds on the first trial. Besides, what does Mr. Johnson stand to lose. He’s already in prison and is not going home very soon.
Oh, and for those of you who believe that the federal government has also granted him immunity, think again. The feds may grant immunity but they will always find another charge to nail you on that was not in the immunity agreement.
