ST. GEORGE – For the second year in a row, United Way Dixie and Allconnect worked together to gather school supplies for children in need in time for the new school year.
Held Friday morning in the Allconnect parking lot on Dixie Drive, the event featured free pancakes, a bounce house and a water slide.
“This event is so amazing because we encourage the community and local businesses to come together to run the largest school supply drive in Washington County,” United Way Dixie administrator Rebekah Pectol said.
The school supplies will be distributed into backpacks by Backpack for Kids and given to needy children through the Washington County School District Foundation.
“The hope of our school supply drive is to help those students that just really need some help starting the school year off with supplies,” Pectol said.
“There are over 850 students that are considered homeless in the Washington County School District. We just want to lower that number and help these students start the school year off with success by gathering supplies that they need to start the school year.”
