Richard BeanJune 17, 1952 — May 14, 2016

Richard David Bean, 63, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 14, 2016. He was born June 17, 1952, in Santa Ana, California, to Joseph William Bean and Carmella Caruso Bean.

Richard was raised in Orange County and graduated from Santa Ana High School. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Quebec Ontario Mission. Richard held numerous callings in the church including bishoprics, scouting, and his favorite calling, primary.

Richard graduated from Brigham Young University where he earned two degrees in Business Communications and Educational Psychology. His career spanned thirty years, teaching elementary through secondary levels. He had a great love for all his students. Richard received numerous awards including teacher of the year.

He loved people and was always encouraging and found the best in everyone. A dear family friend said, “Sometimes people you care about leave this life for bigger and better things. Such a big heart, such a big smile!”

He is survived by his eternal companion and best friend of 23 years Loraine; children, Richard Joseph (Melissa) Bean, David Jonathan (Lindsay) Bean, Lyndi Dunlavy and Crystal Evans; 10 grandchildren; Loraine’s children, Erick Pitsenbarger (Barbara), Heather (Tim) Fry; 3 grandchildren; and twin sisters, JoAnn Dietzel and Jennifer Witte. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother, William Joseph Bean and sister, Nancy Elizabeth Fiduccia.

Funeral Services

  • Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 19, 2016, at 3 p.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel, 110 S. Bluff, St. George, Utah.
  • Friends and family may gather one hour prior to services at the mortuary.
