ST. GEORGE — A motorcyclist who wasn’t wearing a helmet was injured and taken to the hospital after colliding his motorcycle with a full-sized pickup truck at the intersection of Dixie Drive and Mesa Palms Drive in St. George on Wednesday.
St. George Police officers responded just before 10 a.m. to reports of a collision between a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2015 white, Chevy Silverado, said St. George Police Sgt. Spencer Holmes.
A witness at the scene said the driver of the Silverado, an adult female, pulled out from Mesa Palms Drive to turn west onto Dixie Drive and apparently did not see the motorcyclist as he was heading east on Dixie Drive.
The motorcyclist, an adult male, attempted to stop when he saw the Silverado, slamming on his brakes, but was unable to avoid striking the side of the vehicle, said witness Travis Haws.
“I looked over, there was this Silverado just pulling out, taking its time, I don’t think she even saw him (the motorcyclist) at all,” said Haws, who was working at a nearby construction site when the accident occurred. “The motorcycle (was) just coming head on, he was probably going the speed limit or five over, but he slammed on his brakes maybe 20 feet before and slammed right into the front corner (of the Silverado.) I thought he was going to flip right over. It was crazy.”
The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center with bleeding on his head and legs, Holmes said. The driver of the Silverado was cited for failure to yield.
St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance all responded to the incident.
Both the motorcycle and Silverado were towed from the scene.
