ST. GEORGE – Two men were taken to the hospital late Wednesday after their vehicle rolled on Red Hills Parkway by Pioneer Park in St. George.
Just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, a report came into the St. George Communications Center about a single-vehicle rollover on the east side of the Dixie Rock, also known as the Sugar Loaf.
“It appears that the Jeep was traveling eastbound around the corner of the Dixie Rock when it lost control, crossed the median, then rolled at least once.” St. George Police Capt. Mike Giles said. “(The Jeep) ended up landing on the north side of the road right near the Pioneer Park Pavilion.”
There were two men in the vehicle, both 48 years old, Giles said. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and sustained significant head trauma, he said. The driver was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center by Gold Cross Ambulance where he was taken into surgery.
The passenger was still inside the Jeep and was able to get out after some “minor extrication,” Giles said. He was alert and received some minor injuries and was alto taken to DRMC by ambulance.
The accident created a significant debris field in the area near the Dixie Rock and an accident reconstruction team was called in for the investigation. They were still on scene shortly after midnight.
Police units blocked off access to Red Hills Parkway at the intersections of Skyline Drive and 900 East while responders and investigators dealt with the scene.
“We’re looking into whether or not alcohol was a factor in this accident, and there are indications it may have been,” Giles said, “but that is still under investigation.”
Units from the St. George Police and Fire departments, as well as Gold Cross Ambulance, responded to the scene.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
