Lady Reds get road win in last tune-up before region play

RICHFIELD – Cedar’s Lady Reds traveled to Richfield for their final tuneup for region play and came away with a squeaker victory, 51-48. Cedar had to overcome a 22-15 halftime deficit to win the game.

Cedar inched its way back into the game in the third quarter, but still went into the final stanza down by one 38-37. A 14-point fourth quarter pushed the Reds over the top to get the win.

cedar-logoCedar had a balanced attack. Courtney Morley and Hannah Williams each scored nine points. Freshman Dream Weaver came off the bench to also put in nine points. Maisie Elison and Jessica Whetman pulled down seven and six rebounds, respectively.

Richfield falls to 7-5 with the loss. Cedar improves to 9-3. Cedar will travel to Snow Canyon on Tuesday to take on the Lady Warriors. Cedar and Snow Canyon were picked to finish 1-2 in the preseason. Snow Canyon stands at 11-1 with its only loss coming against Juab in the Steve Hodson Cancer Classic. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

The other region games Tuesday are Desert Hills at Hurricane and Dixie at Pine View.


Delta 48, Canyon View 31

The Lady Falcons only managed 17 points over the first three quarters of the game and never made a serious run at the Rabbits.

Shontae Clark led CV with nine points and three 3-pointers, but the Falcons fall to 1-12 with the loss. Delta is 10-1.

Cedar 46, Richfield 38

At RHS, Cedar pulled away in the fourth quarter to take the road win.

Keenan Nielson had 16 points and Mason Fakahua had eight points and eight rebounds as the Redmen improved to 5-4 on the season with the win on Wednesday.

Cedar outscored the Wildcats 13-5 in the final period. Nielson, a junior, also had five rebounds and four assists.

The Redmen are at Canyon View Friday night, with region beginning Wednesday when CHS hosts Snow Canyon. The other games on Region 9’s opening night are Pine View at Dixie and Hurricane at Desert Hills.
